The Executive Director leads the South Carolina AHEC System and provides oversight and guidance for activities and services originating from the SC AHEC Program Office in Charleston and the four regional AHEC centers in Walterboro, Lancaster, Florence and Greenville. The Executive Director represents South Carolina AHEC at the local, state, regional and national levels, serving as an advocate and champion for health professions training, education, recruitment and retention for South Carolina.South Carolina AHEC is a state agency that has provided education, recruitment and retention programs to improve the training, diversity and distribution of South Carolina’s healthcare workforce for more than 45 years. South Carolina AHEC connects students and professionals with the tools, training and resources necessary to provide quality healthcare, with a focus on primary care for rural and underserved communities.

Responsibilities include directing all statewide quality improvement programs delivered by the NC AHEC Program, including the Improving Performance in Practice Program, the Community Transformation Grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Regional Extension Center for Health Information Technology (HIT) and other federal, regional and local grants. Emphasis is placed on designing statewide programs to produce improved health outcomes to the patient population of North Carolina by redesigning healthcare delivery systems to use technology as a tool to improve care and lower cost. Additionally, is responsible for building and implementing a training program to support more than 50 staff across the state to develop the skill sets of on-site facilitation in the areas of implementing HIT, achieving meaningful use, qualifying for MACRA, deploying quality improvement techniques, and transforming to patient centered medical homes in over 1300 primary care practices.
