I’ve been in construction in South Florida for more than 40 years. There have been many moments, particularly when I started in the 80s, when I felt like I was pushing hard into a field without a place for me. So, I made my place. 👷🏾I became one of the first Black female licensed general contractors in Florida. I started one of South Florida’s first African-American female-owned construction companies, MCO Construction, in the 80s. MCO remains a construction leader in South Florida. We’ve been involved in some of the state’s most significant construction projects, such as the Miami Airlines Arena, The Marlins Ballpark, The Miami International Airport, The Miami Science Museum, and The Miami Children’s Courthouse.🛠️I formed the National Association for Black Women in Construction so we could have a voice and encourage more young Black girls to see a future for themselves in construction. 🪙I have been inducted into the National Academy of Construction.🎤I’m passionate about my path and helping others find theirs, so I’m regularly asked to speak at events and conferences.
