I'm an award-winning Investigative Producer, teamed-up with Consumer Investigative Reporter Jason Knowles and veteran Investigative Reporter Chuck Goudie for 20+ years, to produce a body of work that underscores why ABC 7’s I-Team is at the forefront of breaking news in Chicago.Using a wealth of sources, tips, data and the Freedom of Information Act, I generate breaking news, original enterprise stories and deep dive investigations that make a difference in the lives of viewers. My investigations have exposed everything from governmental waste to national security issues, to safety, consumer fraud and crime. I’ve covered stories in and around Chicago and traveled the globe to localize important international stories.SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS• DNA DELAYS: Revealed that more than 750 Chicago murder cases stalled at Illinois forensic labs, waiting for DNA analysis. The series resulted in State Senate hearings that put pressure on state police and the governor to fix the problem.• TAX MISTAKES: Exposed Cook County Assessor Office errors which caused inaccurate property tax assessment increases. The Assessor acknowledged more than 4,000 errors and filed Certificates of Error for the homeowners.• TRASHED: Using dozens of trackers, ABC7 investigated what happens to plastic bags after they're dropped off at recycling bins at stores across the country. This nationwide investigation found that many of them ended up in landfills or incinerators. (Midwest Emmy, National Emmy, DuPont Award)• GHOST KITCHENS: By cross-referencing data, The I-Team found more than 300 Chicago-area restaurants on apps using different names than the restaurant which is making the food causing a lack of consumer transparency, and sometimes safety, in ordering food delivered to your door. • WORST CASE SCENARIO: Exposed how government agencies and chemical companies were unprotected against a deadly terrorist attack. The reports found significant gaps in security at Illinois chemical plants; significant because there are more chemical facilities containing large amounts of hazardous chemicals in Illinois than any state in the USA.
