I was working as a Mechanical Engineer (Consulting) in the Building Service Engineering (Design Development), and the following were my job responsibilities:1) Design and review of mechanical building services that include HVAC, Plumbing, Drainage, Fire protection, and Irrigation systems for industrial, commercial, and residential projects.2) Prepare conceptual design basis memorandum and project specifications for authorities/governing bodies, clients and contractors.3) Instructing and guiding draftsmen for the preparation and modification of concepts, design and delivery drawings to the client, the authority having jurisdiction, suppliers and contractors.4) Attend the technical meeting with authorities/governing bodies, clients and contractors to discuss the design concept, feasibility, and philosophy of proposed mechanical systems in a project.5) Prepare comprehensive design calculations with reference to the international and local building design codes, ensuring the services satisfy the life safety requirements.6) To ensure the usefulness and workability of various design concepts and mechanical systems with reference to discussions held with the supplier/manufacturer of a product.7) Review and coordination of the Bill of Quantities (BoQ) prepared by the Quantity Survey team.8) Coordination and analysis with inter-disciplinary service engineers and architects to overcome obstacles during the design stage.9) Review and provide alternative solutions to design changes and queries requests raised by the contractor on site.10) Site supervision and inspection of contractor's work in building services that include HVAC, Plumbing, Drainage and Fire protection systems.11) Submission of final design drawing adhering to life safety, i.e., mechanical ventilation and fire protection system drawings to the local authority having jurisdiction.
