"We don't know what health is." These words were emblazoned in my mind while working in the ER during my first year of emergency medicine training, while case after case of gunshot wounds, stab wounds, and heart attacks rolled through the door. It was clear we were putting out fires. But nobody was turning off the gas.Two decades later, we still haven't diagnosed the real emergency, so let me say it clearly: We have forgotten who we are and what we are capable of, therefore we cannot know what health actually means. Together, we are in the midst of a health discovery process that connects us all.I recently typed "what is the health industry" into Google. What shocked me is it ignored me completely and rephrased my question as being about "healthcare."Think about the significance of this. Health is such a plain, popular word. And Google is essentially a digital version of the global mind, where you can find many results for even the most obscure search. You would think "health industry" would be a no-brainer. But no. I can find many results for "cat wigs," yet no details on a health industry.We don't have housing-care, auto-care, or energy-care industries. Why, then, do we have a health-care industry? Because we cannot have a health industry. We don't know what health is. The result? We talk endlessly about AI, healthcare reform, new drugs and devices, new businesses, new policies... anything to distract us from the discomfort of ignorance and resultant pain that reverberates throughout our society. Instead of feeling the discomfort of the real problem, we create standby's and neatly place them adjacent to healthcare: wellness, wellbeing, spirituality, etc.The process of health discovery is what we call healing, and it's driven by Numocore, an acronym for Nutrition, Movement, Connection, and Rest. If Numocore were a drug, it would be the biggest blockbuster of all time.
