Joined to run software on the ground- Worked with Space teams to implement CI for satellites, mentored mission control team, including a radical simplification of mission control- Hired the team and helped design data pipeline (including storage and processing of imagery)- Built up the web platform (apis and webapps)At first I did a lot of the work as an IC, but eventually building up teams for Calibration/Validation, Orthorectification, Compositing/Mosaicking, Data product generation, search, billing, authentication.

I was one of the many folks that founded OpenStack. In spring of 2010; I lead the creation of the Nova Compute project. Shortly after writing a prototype; my team open sourced the project, and we introduced it to NASA's management - in hopes that we could use Nova at the core of NASA's Nebula Project. In just a few short months Nova went from being built by 6 developers to having contributions from dozens of people (the Nebula team) and shortly thereafter contributions from hundreds of people (OpenStack).I continue to lead a team in creating a better OpenStack by working directly in the ecosystem, and on the core code with hundreds of individuals and companies. My team is comprised of top contributors to OpenStack, including 2 project technical leads.

Co-Developed the greasemonkey community site, housing thousands of scripts and growing. While I have a team that now operates the site, I still provide aperiodic advise.I built the site and service architecture that has scaled to an API and Web layer handling 2M dynamic page requests per day, and over 12M cached page requests (served via varnish). Running on around a dozen cloud servers. Technologies: Rails, Resque, Redis, Varnish, NGINX, Passenger, Postgresql, Sphinx, Capistrano.

As part of the Anso Labs acquisition, I've continued to lead a world class team building the core of OpenStack. Our efforts include:Created the devstack project, which helps define how all the projects interoperate. Lead the rewrite of Keystone. Lead the rewrite of Horizon to use the OpenStack APIs. Lead the creation of OpenStack APIs & client libraries that corresponded to features that existed in the AWS compatibility API.Inward, I've focused on helping define the future of "Open Cloud" at Rackspace. OpenStack provides the foundation for higher level components and abstractions. Working with members of the PaaS teams in Rackspace to help make Rackspace's IaaS services powered by OpenStack the platform to build their offerings.Additionally I've worked with partners and the eco-system members to coordinate development efforts and build a stronger project.

Bootstrapped a company focused on the open source cloud software. We targeted government and large enterprises (customers include NASA). Originally focused on providing integration and expertise in existing open source projects, we realized that there was a gap for a cloud framework that provided the flexibility and capabilities our clients needed. Our efforts resulted in a project called Nova, which became a core part of the OpenStack Project.AnsoLabs was acquired by Rackspace in 2011.

Lead a team implementing cloud computing for the government. Integrating Open Source components, and building new ones when they don't exist. This lead to the creation of Nova which became a major part of OpenStack

Part of the founding team, leading the engineering efforts around: web architecture, media transcoding, and continuous deployment.A Large Corporation, Inc. runs internet content websites including DanceJam.com. The mission of the company focused on delivering editorial and user-generated content around specific topic areas. We created immersive experiences through contests and competitions, and in the process made sure that the corpus of photos, videos, and editorial posts were properly curated and organized. This not only created a more fun experience, but also helped us to become a rich resource for focused content.In November, 2009, we were acquired by Sportsnet (which had recently merged with PureVideo, Inc. Together, the combined entity has over a dozen focused content sites and tens of millions of users.

My work at CommerceNet focused on open source web technologies and web security.Working with fellow researchers, we investigated how to improve the web user experience related to phishing and password security. My work culminated in a prototype for an improved authentication system for "normal people".Several of the team members went on to form a company, Usable Security Systems, to further develop the idea. Usable was acquired by Webroot in 2010.
