Serving as the Government Contractor HSI Task Lead for the Ground/Air Task-Oriented Radar (G/ATOR) Marine Corp program. This role encompasses all aspects of providing support to the Government HSI Team Lead for the G/ATOR program. • Reviewing and commenting on Specification documents; contributing to the HSI Sub-Integrated Product Team (IPT); representing the Government at major milestone reviews, IPTs and Working Groups; evaluating production contractor program deliverables; providing guidance and direction to HSI counterparts of the production contractor on HSI activities; testing and HSI deliverables; and planning Government HSI activities to include test and evaluation. • Acting as the Government HSI Representative at contractor and government sponsored test events by: Overseeing contractor activities to ensure they satisfy Government HSI requirements; performing data collection and subsequent analyses; and providing HSI/HFE expertise and input as needed during test activities. • Producing and presenting briefings on the status of HSI activities to G/ATOR stakeholders. Stakeholders include the Program Manager, Integrated Product Team (IPT) leads, Marine Corps representatives for G/ATOR, contractor support teams, and external support partners. HSI activities typically briefed to stakeholders include test participation, updates to HSI CDRLs, the status of open HSI issues with the G/ATOR system, and the activities of the HSI Sub-IPT.• Writing and revising test and data collection procedures to support data collection for Measure of Performance (MOP) testing of G/ATOR. Data collection procedures were developed for five aspects of G/ATOR to evaluate the system performance, maintainability, and operational suitability of the system when used by operators wearing biohazard protective gear.

Served as the prime human factors technical support contractor to the Air Traffic Organization Technical Operations Office (AJW) within the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Responsibilities included:• Worked with system software developers to define user requirements for FAA maintenance software applications and systems.• Helped AJW liaison with HF practitioners providing full-time support to other lines of business within the FAA.• Supported the AJW Maintenance Automation Program Office in identifying human factors issues, for Technical Operations personnel such as fatigue, type and frequency of error rates in maintenance procedures, safety, training methods, workstation and workspace design, and maintenance display design. • Worked with other human factors contractors to define and increase technical operations human factors input to requirements for developmental systems.• Developed and drafted operational concepts, human factors research plans (which included cost estimation, resource allocation, and research topics), and various operational views as defined by Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DODAF).• Served as subject matter expert for human factors as a member of the Technical Operations Human Factors Standardization Team (TOHST), an organization responsible for all aspects of human factors guidance and oversight for FAA maintenance personnel.• Provided input to the technical operations section of the Human Systems Integration (HSI) roadmap, one of the infrastructure roadmaps comprising the Enterprise Architecture for NexGen, an initiative to restructure air traffic and FAA maintenance operations in the future.

Supported the FAA Terminal Automation Program Office in the development and implementation of enhancements to terminal automation programs.• Defined human factors requirements for automation systems used for air traffic control operations in the terminal environment (airspace).• Provided human factors input to the FAA AJP Systems Engineering Division and the Joint Program Development Office (JPDO) on NexGen Air Transportation System operational concepts for the terminal environment.• Developed a strategic human factors plan for automation implementation.• Provided technical human factor assessments of mid-term (2017) and long term (2025) ATM operational concepts and automated systems.• Modeled and assessed the impact of flight delays and cancellations on National Airspace System (NAS) operations.• Assisted the JPDO with liaison activities to align FAA and NASA research activities.

Acted as technical HF lead with collaborators at San Jose State University and BAE Systems supporting the FAA AJP Systems Engineering Division to develop conceptual automation environments for high altitude operations.• Led the development of “swim lane” information flow model (IFMs), describing the information exchange between pilots, air traffic controllers, and automated systems.• Led the Booz Allen team in developing cognitive walkthrough procedures and research questions stemming from the swim lane models.• Performed extensive research on human factors issues surrounding data and voice communications between pilots and controllers.• Led focus group interviews with air traffic controllers during operational concept validation efforts.• Conducted and delivered a review of relevant high altitude research.• Conducted research on training procedures and policies for controllers at FAA-sponsored colleges, known as Collegiate Training Initiative (CTI) schools. Identified and collaborated with points of contact at each of the fourteen certified schools, gathered relevant training and curricula information from each, and helped produce a report identifying benefits and areas for improvement within the training programs.Worked with NAVAIR’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Airspace Integration (UAS AI) Human Systems Integration (HSI) team to develop a report describing the human performance issues associated with integrating UAS operations in the national airspace.Provided human factors input to the FRA on bus collision reports to identify driver errors and collision system failures. Analyzed driver workload, vigilance, situational awareness, and responses to automation.

Worked on computer interfaces and simulations involving unmanned (robotic) vehicle control to evaluate operator performance with the long-term goal of identifying areas to implement various types of automation for military applications.
