As I've grown older, the only thing that has remained consistent is seeing the amusement and horror in people's faces as they take in the sight of my drenched shirt and glistening face. I used to be ashamed of my ability to excrete tremendous amounts of sweat while exerting minimal energy. I would spend 5 minutes playing, and 10 minutes wiping myself dry. I used to be ashamed of being the recipient of so many stares and comments. I wished all my sweat pores would close up so I wouldn't have to bring spare clothes every time I was going to commit some sort of physical activity; I wished I didn't have to feel cold and sticky once I rested; I wished I could comfortably sit next to someone and not be so pungent. I despised myself for committing a biological act It wasn't until many years that I finally grasped the beauty behind this supposedly disgusting and annoying characteristic. To me, someone who sweats is perceived as one who exerts tremendous amounts of energy to accomplish a task. Where others feel uneasiness seeing someone panting in a saturated shirt I feel admiration: they persevered despite already demonstrating they've worked strenuously by breaking that first sweat. Sweating, in my eyes, is the physical embodiment of industriousness; it prompts acknowledgment of your struggles and the ability to confront them as you strive to reach your potential. As an undergraduate student majoring in Computer Science, I aspire to be "sweaty" when completing any task, objective, or goal. Whether it be competing on the basketball court or writing code to create Connect Four, I put in 120% effort to ensure I've produced the best work my abilities allow.
