Washington Trails Association has a 50 year legacy of engaging the hiking community. WTA enhances hiking experiences in Washington by empowering a diverse and growing community of hikers to explore, steward and protect trails and public lands. WTA is the nation’s largest state-based hiking advocacy and trail maintenance organization, with more than 27,000 members, thousands of volunteers each year, and an online community of more than 500,000. WTA’s annual budget is approximately $8 million. We believe that hiking has a positive impact on people’s hearts and minds and want to ensure that there are trails for everyone, forever.

Working closely with Tricia and Jeff Raikes I support their work across a diverse array of philanthropic and business interests. I ensure optimal use of their time to achieve maximum impact, serve as a thought partner, provide clear analysis and advice, coordinate across teams, and build partnerships with key constituencies in business and philanthropy.

Formed in 2007 by leaders in Washington state's global health community, WGHA connects participants in one of the world's most dynamic centers for global health innovation. WGHA executive members represent the state's largest global health research and delivery organizations, while global health organization and ally members include a broad range of corporate, civic and faith-based partners and global health nonprofits.

DemonstrationIn collaboration with its partners, the CRTC is developing technology to convert carbon fiber waste material into products. The CRTC will serve as a site of learning for companies interested in using the recycled material for manufacturing. InnovationThe new recycling facility offers interested businesses the equipment, space, and technical expertise to experiment with the product. The CRTC works with both established companies and start-ups to find new ways to use recycled carbon fiber. TrainingThe CRTC provides space for Peninsula College's Advanced Manufacturing-Composite Technology program and laboratory facilities. This allows students access to the materials and equipment, and the chance to collaborate with CRTC businesses partners.

As Associate Vice President for Economic Development and External Affairs Anson Fatland worked to align strategies for engagement with alumni and friends of WSU, donors, government, and the public and private sectors. In this role, Anson leveraged WSU’s assets for the advancement of the institution and the economic growth of Washington State. The role required significant depth in program development, strategic planning, and analytical thinking, as well as strong public speaking and communication skills, and the ability to develop and manage stakeholder relationships across both the private and public sectors.

In his role at the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, Anson was responsible for managing a portfolio of projects worth more than $50 million, including setting program strategy, conducting portfolio analysis and collaborating with the Foundation board as well as external organizations. His focus was on the Foundation’s Science & Technology and Education portfolios where his strong analytical skills and data-driven approach enabled him to identify strategic grant investments to achieve the maximum impact in those areas.

At Burrill & Company, Anson worked with portfolio companies in the areas of medical devices, alternative fuels and energy, clean technology, chemical manufacturing, and small-molecule and biological therapeutics. He was responsible for diligence efforts on multi-million dollar investments, preparing financial models and market analyses, and managing deal flow.

As senior process chemist for a leading drug discovery company, Anson led a scientific team evaluating libraries of potential anti-cancer compounds. His work included managing alliances with large pharmaceutical companies and developing Investigational New Drug (IND) filings for FDA trials. Key requirements included strong collaboration and communication skills, a strategic view of Exelixis business goals, and the ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with stakeholder groups inside and outside the organization.
