I am pursuing my PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies, emphasizing maternal and child health. During my graduate program, our collaborative research utilized national datasets, including NHANES, PRAMS, and the All of Us Research Program datasets, leading to national conference presentations and manuscript development. I was fortunate to work as a graduate research assistant for the NIH's All of Us Research Program for 1.5 years under the Institute for Rural Health Research (IRHR). In this role, I assisted our team in recruiting and retaining participants around West Alabama, including some rural counties. With the support of my team, I also developed and fostered a meaningful community partnership with some of the organizations in Tuscaloosa (International Student and Scholar Services at the University of Alabama, Northport Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa Latino Coalition, United Way - Success by 6) that boosted the program's research participant number. As part of the IRHR team, I now work on the maternal and child health section of the Alabama Black Belt Fact Book development; an interactive web tool for the fact book is also underway, along with the physical copy. As I wrap up my PhD, I am looking for Epidemiologist roles where my efforts can make an impact in reducing maternal morbidity and mortality. Regarding my future roles, a supportive work environment is my top priority.
