WearOptimo is a HealthTech and Data/SaaS company with the mission of advancing wearable healthcare sensing to pioneer precision medicine and provide health insights for users. We have developed a minimally-invasive sensor applied to the skin with microprobes to access key signals/information from just inside our bodies largest organ... the skin!As the Head of Research, Development and Manufacturing I plan, lead, and I manage WearOptimo’s technical strategy, capabilities and activities for the Microwearable platform. Directing and leading multiple science and engineering teams, I am accountable for the delivery of the platform technology, from idea, research, development and to manufacturing. As the Head of RDM I am a member of the Executive team reporting to the CEO, working closely with the CEO on strategic technical planning and reporting, and the CFO on budget technical planning and reporting. As the Head of RDM accountable for technical progress, I have an integral responsibility for leading and influencing company performance and culture.
  • The University Of Queensland
    Postdoctoral Research Fellow
The University Of Queensland Feb 2017 - Aug 2018
    Brisbane, Queensland, Au
Working at the Center for Organic Electronics and Photonics (COPE) the project aim was to design, syntheses, fabricate and test low cost large area solution processed White Organic Light Emitting Diodes (WOLEDs) panels. As the lead physicist on the project I setup and commissioned a laboratory for the fabrication and the electro-optical characterization of OLEDs. This involving the installation of a Kurt J Lesker 200 organic thin film deposition system integrated into a glovebox system with integrated spin coating capabilities for solution processed organic layers and thermal transport layer and electrode deposition.
  • Agalytics
    Founder
    Agalytics Nov 2015 - Feb 2017
I founded agAlytics to develop a platform for nutrient sensing in agriculture, for farmers to better manage plant nutrients. The sensors reduce uncertainty about nutrient availability, minimising fertilizer and nutrient inputs and maximising quality crop yields. agAlytics successfully raised seed funding from the University of Queensland's Innovation Lab to build functional prototypes and advance the technology. • Physi.Co.Uk
    Consultant
    Physi.Co.Uk Dec 2014 - Aug 2015
An independent consultant in the physical and biological sciences
  • Ecole Normale Supérieure
    Postdoctoral Researcher
Ecole Normale Supérieure Jan 2014 - Aug 2014
An experimental research position to build and develop a low loss, wholly optical fibre based, terahertz time domain spectroscopy system for the on-chip analysis of CVD monolayer graphene and multi layer CVD graphene samples.A pump beam generated a terahertz transient that was coupled into a planar waveguide and the loss profile of the propagating terahertz pulse sampled with a positional probe employing electro-optical detection. The fabricated planar waveguide on a low loss polymer substrate allows for propagation across many millimetres and absorption spectra of samples on top of the waveguide obtained. The interaction depth of the terahertz pulse for medium on the planar waveguide is many orders of magnitude greater than for standard transmission or reflection spectroscopy.
  • Vaxxas
    Medical Device Engineer
    Vaxxas Jul 2012 - Oct 2013
    Brisbane, Au
I was fortunate to join Vaxxas soon after its $16 million series A funding. Taking the lead over an emerging technology, shaping it for improved performance and manufacturability was an amazing experience. The role required fast paced decision making to respond to technical challenges as they arose and working to mitigate challenges by implementing robust fabrication methods with line-of-sight to a cGMP fabrication process. It was a technically complex project, and making a visible contribution to the success and growth of Vaxxas was a challenging but rewarding experience.Leading a fabrication and R&D team I was at the heart of many of the company’s challenges, directly advancing the technology, implementing and improving fabrication methods (DRIE, Photolithography, wafer dicing etc.), increasing fabrication yields and wafer throughput and advancing the fabrication towards automated batch processing.
