In August 1988 I started a job that had a goal of preventing injuries in the workplace and preventing injuries to the public caused by commercial vehicle highway crashes. Although many years have passed and I have changed employers, that is still my heartfelt goal - preventing injuries and crashes so that employees can go home to their loved ones after their shift. The employees deserve it, their families deserve it and the general public deserves it. Poor planning, poor oversight and failure to follow minimum safety compliance guidelines can lead you down a path resulting in catastrophic losses so severe that as a business owner, you could lose everything you have worked years to build.At Alabama Consulting Services, we start with the basics and work with business owners to identify loss areas that are costing them money now. After we identify those problems, we look at feasible controls to help prevent them from occurring again. After we establish those controls, we start to assist them with strengthening their WC, GL and AUTO risk management programs with the long term goal of helping reduce their insurance costs.

Worked closely with customer management and front line employees identifying and mitigating risks. Participated in customer safety meetings, provided mock DOT and OSHA audits. Provided general and job specific training. Operated mobile training center (L3 Driving Simulator) at customer locations and trade shows. Provided daily service to accounts in the energy industry in a territory covering North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. Assisted underwriting with assessments to better price the risk associated with each business. Developed multiple training presentations for use with energy industry. Managed environmental cleanup of crashes and spills to minimize claims costs.

Prior to 2005, provided loss control services to a variety of large commercial operations including paper mills, saw mills, pulp mills, mining operations (oil, rock and coal), transportation companies and, an assortment of heavy manufacturing. Common tasks associated with these operations included;• Machine guarding evaluations.• Creation of JHAs. • Development of program assessments to help identify deficiencies/weaknesses.• Implementation of behavioral safety programs.• Supervisor safety training.• Risk assessment for customers and insurance underwriting.Since 2005, I have provided contract (dedicated) loss control services to UPS. Primary assignment is to work with local management to reduce claim frequency and severity. Current work includes; (a) Training new business managers in the corporate safety program. (b) Training new frontline supervisors in behavioral safety observation and feedback techniques. (c) Training supervisors and business managers in injury and crash investigation techniques including root cause analysis. (d) Training business managers and frontline supervisors on corporate safe work methods. (e) Reviewing new equipment installations and facility modifications with plant engineering. (f) Assessing current work methods and processes to determine if updates or modifications are needed. (g) Development of new communication media to increase employee awareness.
