I am a high-income sales and sales mgmt professional, entrepreneur and proud author of The Street-Smart Salesman: How Growing Up Poor Helped Make Me Rich, published in 2012. The book is the foundation of my Street-Smart Coaching venture. I was born in Italian East Harlem in 1953, into one of the poorest families in one of the city's worst slums. Often hungry and without a cent, I became an expert in the highly creative art of person-to-person negotiation using a variety of risk-managed, cash-producing techniques to underwrite my next slice of pizza, tactics I describe as "eating without stealing." A chronic truant, in 1971 I was accepted into the SEEK program for disadvantaged students at the City College of New York where, in 5 years, I earned bachelor's and master's degrees with honors! I began my sales career at Metropolitan Life in 1978, making the company's Million-Dollar Club in my first year. I have consistently performed at the highest ranks, won dozens of company, regional and national sales awards for various employers and earned million in commissions. In recent years, I became a popular visiting professor at the Business School of Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry. I began thinking about writing a book based on my unconventional approach to sales. Through the Dean, I met my co-writer, Janine Dreyer Nichols.
