Recruited as an assistant professor at the University of Bordeaux in 2006, I joined the team headed by Pr Alain Brisson with the aim to elucidate the physiological function of Annexine-A5 (ANXA5). I became the group leader in 2017. Since 2020, I lead, together with Olivier Lambert, the Biomedical research department within the CBMN Unit.A biochimist by training (Master degree in Structure, function and engineering of proteins, Paris 6, 7, 11, Polytech., ENS ; PhD in biology in the field of protein/DNA interaction, University of Bretagne-Sud), I gained expertise in cell biology during post-doctoral projects, notably in Paul Pascal research center (UMR 5031, Bordeaux) where I worked on intracellular traffic of functionalized lipid vesicles in collaboration with the group of Ludger Johannes (Curie institute, Paris).I exhibit recognized expertise in the field of membrane repair, revealing notably the role played in this process by ANXA5, a protein whose physiological function remained hitherto unknown (Bouter et al., Nat. Commun. 2011; Bouter et al., placenta 2015; Carmeille et al., BBA 2015, 2016), and recently describing the roles played by ANXA1 (Ducat et al., iScience 2020) and ANXA6 (Croissant et al., Cells 2020; Croissant et al. Membranes 2022). I have also developed specific methodologies for the study of membrane repair: an assay based on the creation of membrane rupture by laser ablation, which enables to identify cells able to repair a membrane damage (Carmeille et al. 2017, Methods Mol Biol), and an approach by correlative light and electron microscopy, combining fluorescence and transmission electron microscopy imaging, which allows to visualize the membrane repair machinery at high resolution and decipher membrane repair mechanisms (Croissant et al. 2018, Curr Protoc Cell Biol).We are currently interesting in the implication of membrane repair in the development of diseases, such as preeclampsia (Ducat et al., iScience 2020), muscular dystrophies (Croissant et al., Int. J. Mol. Sci. 2021) and cancer (Bouvet et al. Sci Rep 2020; Gounou et al. Cell Mol Life Sci. 2023; Gounou et al. Biol. Cell. 2023).I teach biochemistry and cell biology, in the preparation for entry into engineering schools of Bordeaux (CPBx), in Bachelor of life sciences and in the Master of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Bordeaux. I am responsible for the “Cell Imaging” lecture in the first year of the Master of biochemistry and “Life Macromolecules” lecture in the first year of the CPBx.
