Manageing a small software team developing technology products for the aquaculture industry.

Developing software to support industry in the highlands. This included projects for the water industry, food processing and heat recovery.

Reporting to the School Support Manager I monitored, managed and maintained a wide range of ICT equipment responsible for the routine management of a network which had over a dozen servers, 500 pcs, 1200 users. In addition to providing front line technical support to teaching staff. I developed applications using C#, C, SQL and Perl, as well as various scripting languages, to improve the productivity of the team.

Rural Scotland

Reporting to my Team Leader in Dumfries I was responsible for the ICT infrastructure in fourteen primary schools. This includes servers, switches, reprographics and video conferencing equipment, diagnosing faults, performing housekeeping tasks and monitoring performance.The geography of the region dictates that I worked independently, prioritising work to minimise disruption to teaching staff. I also enjoy working as part of a team on larger projects.

Burnley

Aero and Industrial Technology (now part of Smith Aerospace) is a world leader in the research, development and testing of gas turbines operating its own engine test facility. I led on software and electronic project undertaken by the company. I co-ordinated the work of the team, subcontracting work to meet project requirements and keeping abreast of changes in technology. I also led the team in system design, as the nature of the projects require a hands on approach and a diverse range of skills.

Burnley

I provided the software and control support for the mechanical design staff. In this role I undertook all aspects of software development. This included formalising the specification, designing the software structure and developing the user interface software. I produced the project documentation such as risk assessments, technical construction file, manuals and schematic drawings. I designed a range of PIC based microcontrollers which could be used to augment the backbone system. I developed specialised user interface to monitor the conditions inside an engine in real time using C++.

Manchester

I worked as the software specialist for a small multi-disciplined team which tackled unique projects in complex mechanical handling and process systems. This required me to rapidly understand new concepts and use equipment unproven in the field where I had to liaise with the equipment designers whilst under commercial pressure. I worked with the client to develop the specification and design an appropriate system subcontracting work as appropriate.

Doncaster, United Kingdom

Design, develop and document program development tools, database systems and user interfaces using DEC FORTRAN on a DEC VAX network. Other work included providing tutorials for customers.
