Includes Pre-Analytical, Client Services, Core (Immunology, Clinical Chemistry, Coag), Molecular, Analytical Chemistry and R&D Departments.Obtain CAP/CLIA NYSDOH, ISO 15189 and other accreditations (FL, MD, CA, etc.) to service physicians/hospitals.

Oversee operations for all Advanced Diagnostics (ADx) clinical laboratories for National Jewish Health. Individual Laboratories include Immunology/Flow Cytometry, Pharmacokinetics, Mycology/TB/NTM, Molecular Diagnostics (MDx), Beryllium, Microbiology, Clinical Trial testing and Complement laboratories. Collaborates with Executive Director on the day-to-day operations of laboratory including managing staff, lab finances, reimbursement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) and compliance with all accrediting agencies. Determine staff qualifications and competency: recruits, selects, hires and trains. Manages/supervises and develops effective staff at the managerial and supervisor levels. Directs in-service and continuing education activities for staff. Monitors staff safety compliance and use of PPE. Evaluates staff performance regularly and determines merit increases, promotions and disciplinary actions. Collaborates with lab staff and directors of the area and multidisciplinary health care team to develop and provide a quality, cost-effective patient care delivery system that is consistent with national standards and guidelines. Oversees formulation of policies and procedures for the ADx Laboratories and institution for relevant issues. Assumes the duties of the Executive Director, ADx Labs during the absence of the Executive Director. Manages specified ADx cost centers including personnel, capital, space and operational expenses. Monitors the revenue and expenses of the assigned areas: makes appropriate adjustments as necessary; prepares annual budget and financial/revenue reports as required or requested; monitors expenses and cost reduction; and prepares short-term/long-term business plans to meet institutional goals and objectives. Lead LEAN Six-Sigma/continuous improvement efforts and training.

Oversee a high-throughput genomics laboratory which specializes in Paternity (Relationship)Genetic Ancestry, clinical and Life Sciences-based genetic tests. Optimize manual and robotic processes and reduce costs of operations through directing LEAN Six-Sigma projects. Direct and manage Research and Development in order to bring new/novel DNA tests and technologies online. Development and oversight of laboratory quality system that addresses multiple accreditations. Provide expert testimony in legal cases for relationship testing. Laboratory specializes in mitochondrial DNA sequencing, SNP-testing, YSTR and autosomal fragment analysis as well as other test types. Drive university collaboration and cultivate the development of new/novel test types to bring them to the deliverable stage. Oversee all technical aspects of product deliverables. Involvement with all customer service relationships. Work with and provide scientific evaluation for Business Development and Sales teams in the development of new Business to Business or retail (DTC or OTC) business opportunities. Development of IS-based, automated, real-time metric collection systems and corrective action systems. Engineer process flow to reduce turn-around-time and minimize sample failures. Lead process improvement projects in all areas (Customer Service,Laboratory, Case Production, Accessioning, Sales & Marketing and Accounting) of the organization. Provide laboratory process improvement consulting and training to customers where contracts are concerned.

Design, market and implement new forensic genetic screening systems, which target specific genomic sites in crime-scene samples, improve forensic evidence isolation and increase DNA yield from extracted samples. Implement Intellectual Property (IP) rights on research discoveries. Provide research and operational support to all other departments (Paternity, Forensics and Forensic Data Base (CODIS)) regarding the implementation of high throughput DNA identification techniques or DNA extraction kits for use with manual and robotic systems.

Conduct scientific analysis on biological evidence, following standard operating procedures for paternity testing. Utilize DNA testing methods based on PCR and/or RFLP technologies. Ultimately responsible for ensuring that casework is processed in an accurate and timely manner as well as responsible for the review and approval of reports prior to mailing. Can provide testimony as a court qualified expert. Available to laboratory personnel as a resource for technical advice, problem solving, and questions. Responsible for remaining up-to-date with current methods and procedures, oversees training, continuing education, QA/QC, safety measures, proficiency testing and competency testing in the laboratory. Has the authority to speak directly to clients regarding their case. Has the authority to assign laboratory duties.

Research focus was on typing large subfamilies of human and non-human primate-specific Alu retrotransposable genetic elements, which are useful in the fields of molecular genetics, DNA forensics, population biology, medical genetics, DNA forensics and population biology. Two publications have resulted in the recovery of 553 polymorphic Alu elements that are useful as genetic markers for the inference of human geographic origins and human identity testing. Work consisted of computationally locating, PCR amplifying, cloning, evolutionarily dating, DNA sequencing and statistically analyzing Alu elements that belong to a specific genetic lineage. Used the genotypes of individuals tested from the Middle East, Asia, Europe and South America to calculate Alu element population allele frequencies, which are favorable for use in a PCR-based geographic identification assay. This research was accomplished under the mentorship of Dr. Mark A. Batzer.Instruction of third and fourth year science and non-science majors on the standard laboratory protocols and experimentation techniques that are used in several biological science/biochemistry/molecular biology/ecology/genetics disciplines for entire duration of graduate school.

Responsible for producing monthly, short term (2-year), employment, forecast projection reports on various sectors of Louisiana industry. These data were published and used by various out-of-state companies to make decisions on investing in the Louisiana job market. This position primarily called for an understanding of econometric forecasting statistics, database development and SAS programming language.

Employed by the ApproSystems Research and Development department and assigned to create interface programs in Sequel Query Language (SQL) and Crystal Reports which were used by international banks and loan companies to determine individual loan eligibility. Customer support as well as assistance in the production of in-house database software was provided to client companies.
