Converted to be a dIrect employee when eEnablement development project completed. Create and manage distribution of software to primarily 787 and 737Max (eEnabled) fleets but also to legacy fleets. Monitor connectivity and initiate action when connectivity is disrupted. Analyze security logs to identify operational and security issues. Continue to refine software and data delivery methods via automated methods outside of the Boeing provided distribution system in order to improve the speed and functionality of the system.

Created Aircraft Modifiable Information (AMI) software, managed software upload, and data download for the 787 and 737 Max fleets for a major airline. Automated the download process well beyond the core Boeing software and extended automation to minimize technician touch time. Automated analysis of security logs to provide additional detail for operational issues and extended the capability to remotely access all necessary applications and data in order to provide 24/7/365 support, as needed.

I provided on-base engineering oversight of system requirements and design development for the KC-10 Communication Navigation Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) program until a stop work order was issued and the effort went back into source selection. The program included installation of new cockpit displays, Flight Management System (FMS), Communications Management Units (CMUs), Digital data radios, and printer. Structural oversight included evaluation of preliminary installation design in the cockpit and electronics bays.

I oversaw workload, cost, schedule and technical performance of over 250 personnel in support of the Contract Field Teams (CFT) Program at 17 sites throughout the United Sates. These sites comprise nearly 50% of the total work on the contract competed between four small business contractors.

I established an engineering organization to perform systems integration design, production, installation, and test for company and competitor designed modifications on military and commercial aircraft. I supported multiple offices in proposal/program development and execution. Developed the preliminary electrical and mechanical design for a roll-on/roll-off reconnaissance package that included EO/IR FLIR, ELINT, COMINT, Search Radar, intercom, UHF/VHF and multiple SATCOM voice and data-link systems. All interfaces from the aircraft systems and antennas were defined through electronics racks to the various operators’ stations. The package included a comfort area to support long missions and incorporated the capability to provide direct audio and video tactical information to VIPs in the comfort area. Performed an engineering investigation of landing gear door structural failures on USCG C-130 aircraft. This effort included instrumentation and test flight of the aircraft to determine root cause and establish a new structural design to be installed on the aircraft as proof of concept. Oversaw the mechanical and electrical design of the installation of a flight data recorder system in USCG C-130 and HU-25 aircraft and assisted in the installation of the system on the C-130. I performed in, and directed, military and commercial aircraft engineering organizations consisting of multiple engineering, technical publications, logistics and field services groups performing systems integration programs. I progressed from Senior Staff Engineer to Program Manager; Engineering Manager; Senior Manager; and to Director. I was instrumental in the establishment of engineering services, systems integration and field services organizations. Redesigned the AC/DC power distribution system, which included the replacement of transformer-rectifiers (TRs) and developed a set of standard designs for KC-135 circuit breaker panels, reducing the number of documented configurations from well over 100 to 3. As part of the redesign, I identified and corrected a single point of failure in the aircraft DC power distribution design which had existed for over 40 years. Provided engineering services overseeing the development of all modifications on the KC-135 aircraft and established prior to/concurrent with modification sequence direction for prime contractors for the various modifications. This oversight included reviewing all mechanical and electrical engineering presentation materials and drawings to ensure proper interface to the aircraft. Provided engineering expertise in the development of NAV Safety, SFDR, FDR Upgrade, APU Battery Replacement, Volt/Ammeter Replacement, Door Switch/Heat Shield, APU Automatic Test, Thermal Curtain, ARC-186 VHF, ARC-187 SATCOM, ARC-210 UHF/VHF DAMA SATCOM, APX-119 IFF/ETCAS, Weather Radar, Tactical Display, Beyond Line of Sight/ Situational Awareness Enhancement, Satellite Tracking Beacon, Latrine, Aero-medical Pallet/Seats, and various other modification programs.

I developed designs for the integration of avionics, structures, furnishings, primary/secondary/ancillary controls, and air conditioning of several types of rotary/fixed wing aircraft for full motion simulators (FST/WSTs) and cockpit procedures trainers (CPTs). Designed and implemented standard electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and servo systems to simulate primary, secondary and ancillary controls. Developed standard environmental and equipment cooling systems for all new simulator devices and retrofit existing simulators built by various competitors. The new design increased the total volume delivered by 280% and reduced the unit size to ¼ the size used by competitors. Provided liaison support for manufacture, assembly, and installation for all designs and performed field services for company and third party designed simulators throughout the US. This included definition of the problem, redesign of the system, manufacture, assembly of subcomponents, mechanical installation, electrical wiring, ring-out, troubleshooting, and software update in order to maintain system availability and FAA certification.

I performed mechanical design and corrected electrical designs for avionics, primary/secondary/ancillary controls, structures (including main frame, instructor station and visual system enclosure), furnishings, air conditioning, instructor/operator stations, and primary/secondary motion systems of several types of rotary/fixed wing aircraft for full motion simulators (FSTs) and cockpit procedures trainers (CPTs). Developed standard designs for computer, avionics/electrical control, motion control and power control cabinets. I developed standard designs for various computer/electronics subsystems and components. The first drawing I ever produced was chosen as the company standard for motion control cabinet design.
