After leaving school I ended up working as a deck hand on Prawn trawlers out of Darwin, and in the off season a commercial Barramundi boat.At the end of the season a friend offered me a civil job on the Great Northern Highway, WA (Henry and Walker, 1988) where I gained experience with various pieces of heavy equipment. With those skills under my belt I entered the mining industry. I worked in Nickel -Leinster WA, Bauxite – Gove, N.T., Gold – Toms Gully (Arnhem Land) N.T., Exploration Drilling – Drillcorp W.A. & N.T., Mineral Sands - Eneabba W.A.Somehow I ended up back in Darwin as a storeman at one of the largest mail order companies in Australia. I took an interest in their computer network and processing systems. Soon I was their I.T. guy, I remained with them for quite a few years until I decided to re-enter the mining industry in 2011.Restarted my mining career as an operator at Isaac Plains Coal Mine, followed shortly after by moving to BMA's Saraji Coal Mine also as an operator for HSE mining for approximately 18 months.In 2013 I was employed by Peabody Energy at their Millennium Coal Mine, firstly as an Operator followed by Dispatch where I remained untill the mine closed. The software used was Jigsaw's Jmineops.After Millennium Mine shut it's doors in September 2018 I was employed by BHP at IROC in Brisbane Dispatching using Modular 5 & 6.May 2019 started at Glencore's McArthur River Mine in the N.T. in a Senior Dispatch roll in their new state of the art control room.2021 returned to QLD and Coal due to Covid and interstate travel restrictions, last 2.5 years I've been employed by Stanmore Resources at their Poitrel Mine as a Leading hand / Supervisor.
