I completed my General Surgical and Paediatric Surgical training over twenty years ago, and am a practising paediatric surgeon in Sydney, Australia. My medical interests include trauma surgery ( I served 12 years in the RAN Reserve), surgical education and communication for surgeons. I have instructed on PCM, EMST, Surgeons as Teachers, Keeping Trainees on Track and SATSET courses for the College of Surgeons. I am currently faculty for the Operating with Respect and Training in Professional Skills courses of the College.I am interested in the diagnosis and managment of conflict within the health workplace. I have completed the Negotiation and Leadership course of Harvard Law School and have completed a Masters Of Conflict Management and Resolution at James Cook University. I am an accredited Conflict Coach (Conflict Coaching International Academy) and am curretly an NMAS accredited mediator. I am an accredited Transformative Mediator via the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation.Interpersonal conflict within the health workplace is inevitable, and conflict avoidance (non-engagement) is common. Conflict form opportunities to promote growth and development, and when engaged with in a considered fashion can be vital for improving workplace culture and staff retention.
