I am an urban design teacher, practitioner, and researcher with qualifications in both architecture and civil engineering. My professional work experience spans the fields of Architecture, Transport Planning, Engineering Design, Urban Design, Community and Stakeholder Engagement and Project Management. Through research and education combined with practice I have developed approaches to tackle the challenges of growing cities. My specialist areas include defining, reviewing and communicating the quality of the built environment and the integration of human needs into public places and projects. I have also developed, trialled and applied a number of innovative and engaging interactive collaborative design models to enable co-creation of urban plans, projects and policy. These tools are aimed at embedding community and stakeholder knowledge and values into urban development to help generate a shared spatial vision. I believe good design is about people and their relationship to each other and the natural world. If we focus on this, then the products of our endeavours will generate places and objects which endure and support and enrich our individual and collective lives and the environment which sustain us.
