Senior Associate, Systems Engineering
Electrical Systems Design Eit
-Designed and delivered engineering change packages for future implementation onto the Canadian Victoria class submarines. Owning and delivering power/combat system specification and drawing packages.-Supported waterfront implementation of extended and temporary refit of Canadian Victoria class submarines. -Developed, designed and implemented, ETAP unbalanced load flow model of Canadian naval vessels.-Evaluated, updated and delivered combat system interfaces diagrams for the Canadian Victoria class submarines. -Ensured configuration of power/combat systems between in-class vessels by tracing and identifying gaps and errors in legacy drawing data. -Produced proposals for submarine engineering changes for Canadian Department of Defense consideration.
Helicopter Test Lab Configurator
- Updated technical baseline for Maritime Helicopter Project validation labs to move and reestablish test labs as trainers/simulators. Accomplished by consolidating data collected from project documents; bill of materials, drawings, software configuration indexes, and by verifying military hardware/software items installed. - Enabled the installation of upgraded hardware for system experiments with electronic optics video signals. - Performed root cause analysis to determine issues within the helicopter test lab, increasing the testing bandwidth once solutions were found.
Helicopter Test Lab Configurator
- Provide support to verification and validation engineers when performing qualification testing during 24/7 shift cycles to insure on time product delivery. - Ensured compliance to contract configuration control and identified gaps in project deliverable documentation of 4 military helicopter test labs establishing a new technical baseline. This included the understanding of interfaces between; Avionics Simulators, Dummy Loads, Electro-Optical/Infrared Sensors, Military Data Handling Systems, Operator Workstations, Radar Simulators, Sonar Simulators, and Weapon Discharge Simulators.
M1-A1 Hardware Power Hardware And Obsolescence
- Developed a new obsolescence test methodology to ensure the absolute operation of replacement electrical components. - Developed an automated test sequence to validate a prototype test jig for power supply products. Accomplished by reviewing product requirements, past automated sequences, and past manual testing procedures. calculated the process capability (CPK) for each test to qualify the new jig and sequence for production. - Qualified the use of diodes for use inside of M1A1 hardware. Modified circuit board by attaching long leads to diode components. While the board was within a thermal chamber I measured and analyzed the voltage response of both obsolete and proposed diodes at 70°C, 20°C, and -40°C. - Identified and qualified replacement power MOSFET by collaborating with component engineering and by testing MOSFETs under similar parameters as the diodes.- Created rudimentary bitmaps using MATLAB for display testing.
Smart Display Prototyping
- Experimented with various methods to produce high resolution video signals to avoid re-spinning the circuit card assembly. Became familiar with Intel processor graphics capabilities, video signal protocols, and EDID data structures. - Produced a 2048 x 1536 prototype military smart display within a 3-month time frame to present to future and existing customers. - Partitioned and prepared dual boot hard drives with Red Hat and Windows for Sales Engineering presentations. - Strengthened technical knowledge for displays, signaling, hardware, graphical capabilities and interfacing through exploring different prototype possibilities.
Helicopter Systems Engineering
- Ensured compliance of helicopter subsystem specifications to client level requirements using DOORs requirements mgmt. Software. - Evaluated helicopter mission system alerts for redundancy and insured they met with human factor's principles/Department of Defense requirements. - Performed verification and validation testing to investigate problem reports for radar, sonar, EO/IR, and mission, helicopter systems. Met with Department of Defense representatives to discuss way forward and successes with these problem reports. - Provided support in performing tech edits of airworthiness reports for official submission.
Interface And Product Engineering
- Implemented a technical interface management process to transit system projects to identify subsystem conflicts. Done in the support of projects internationally (São Paulo, New York, Riyadh) - Created a heat map of project interfaces to visualize project progress at a glance and to assist with SR&ED tax credit justification. - Cooperated with engineers to Pitch R&D projects with upper management. - Initiated installation project for prototype EnerGstor Unit. Determining electrical interfaces between the unit and the TTC wayside systems and specifying installation methods.
Satellite Structural Designer
- Provided all constructive design for a 3U CubeSat as a member of Waterloo’s team for the Canadian satellite Design Challenge, as the singular structural designer - Utilized FEA tools to analyze multiple configurations of the design to determine the optimal configuration through iterative design. - Researched and evaluated the feasibility of the use of 3D printed material within the satellite. Within initial findings determining that it was ineffective to use 3D printing for any structural components; and that it would be most effective to support items with non-standard mounting. Continued to stay with the team after co-op for 3 years of total time - Developed two Satellites within a student team, leading the subteam in charge of structural design of the satellite. - Lead efforts for the team to integrate satellite subsystems. This included the power, attitude control, data bus, communications and GPS payload systems. - Received multiple, rigorous design reviews from a panel of industry members against design teams from across the country at David Florida Labs. - Recruited and trained new members for the team, bolstering numbers from a team of six to a team of twenty-eight.
Project Engineering Student
-Performed a comprehensive analysis of Toronto Pearson International Airport building systems -Designed and implemented building systems database to optimize maintenance work deployment to reduce downtime.-Performed client site inspections of electrical, architectural, water, illumination, and HVAC systems to map each item for the database. -Consulted Black & McDonald’s interdisciplinary team of electricians, building operators, plumbers, and technicians to ensure quality and accuracy of maintenance databases.
Construction Services Coordinator
- Worked as a part of a 5 person project coordination team on a Department of National Defense clinic at CFB wing 19. - Managed & prioritized change orders by performing cost estimations, on site feasibility analysis, and client consultations. Gatekeeper for all stakeholders to ensure contractual obligations were on schedule. The above was accomplished by: - Maintaining communication channels with general contractor, DND officials, and the project architect. - Understanding scope of the changes performed - Performing site inspections and verifications. - Monitoring day to day operations.
