Perform the role of reelerman, controlling the unwinding process of a parent paper reel and rewind process onto cores as customer/stock reels at specified widths/lengths. Knowledge of all control panel and switch gear including: setting web tension, safety guards, speed control, carrier/rider roll control, bow roll angles, reeling pressure controls, core chuck controls, setting unwind/rewind parameters.Ability to monitor/report paper defects and take action where necessary, including adjustment to reeling controls and making splices if required. Gained knowledge of variations of sheet splices, performing where necessary and to customer requirements.Awareness of general machine safety including: nips, knives/rings, compressed air and machine emergency stop locations.

Assist dryerman/reelerman/process controller in both the production and reeling of paper on the paper machine and reeler.Knowledge of starting/stopping/operating clutches through all sections of the paper machine.Controlling activities at the size press including: chemical addition, controlling viscosity, PH and resistivity to achieve desired paper properties.Knowledge of sheet draw-control operation from wet-end to dry-end.Knowledge of felt cleaning system operations, including chemical washes.Inspecting finished paper reels and samples for defects, knowledge gained in rectifying defects.Assist in feeding up all sections of the paper machine.Assist in running and changing of all machine clothing, splicing ropes and assisting maintenance personnel in carrying out their tasks.Transporting machine reels to the appropriate finishing area using reel trucks and transporters.Assist in reel changes from reel-up controls and operating overhead cranes.Removing/correct labelling/disposing of waste paper and broke.Awareness of general machine safety (including nips, doctor blades, felt rolls, rope feeds, hot stock, steam, hoses, size press, radioactive sources, tail cutting knives, compressed air and reel up).Basic knowledge of isolation and locking-off procedures and permits to work.
