For many years, I was a senior staff member of the IMF with responsibilities for organizing and supervising the Fund's macroeconomic surveillance and financial lending operations with countries in the Asia Pacific and Latin American regions. I also served for a time as the Deputy Director of the Fund's Statistics Department and was involved in the development of its Fund-wide Data Dissemination Standards and in the oversight of its data collection and technical assistance activities. Since leaving the Fund, I have served as a consultant with the World Bank and have taught courses on global finance and development at Duke, Johns Hopkins and Yale Universities. During this time, I was also a Senior Associate at St. Antony's College (Oxford), a Visiting Research Fellow at the London School of Economics, and the AGIP Professor of International Economics at the Johns Hopkins SAIS European Center. My publications include the following five books on global economic and financial issues: Governing Global Finance: The Evolution and Reform of the International Financial Architecture (2011); Globalization and Development: Why East Asia Surged Ahead and Latin America Fell Behind (2014); The Global Financial Crisis in Retrospect: Evolution, Resolution and Lessons for Prevention (2017); The United States in the World Economy: Making Sense of Globalization (2019); and The Global Currency Power of the US Dollar - Problems and Prospects (2021).
