As Founder / Director of Evolved Research and Consulting Ltd., I am focussed on delivering innovative environmentally sustainable outcomes for the blue economy through ideation, research and planning. This includes policy and programme development and evaluation, as well as strategic and behavioural change. I have successfully delivered contracts on behalf of a range of funders including the World Bank and UK Government arms length bodies including Cefas, Natural England, NatureScot and the JNCC. A key focus of the work is on marine plastics, with a drive to find solutions through engaging a circular economy and valorising waste. This has involved developing partnerships, networks and engagement, with key stakeholders both internationally and in the UK. World Bank contracts have included carrying out national baseline assessments for Abandoned, Lost and Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG) as a source of marine plastics in the South Asia Region (SAR). These assessments were delivered for Bangladesh; Pakistan; Sri Lanka and the Maldives. This has also led to subsequent work with Cefas, funded under the Ocean Country Partnership Programme, through the Blue Planet Fund. A pilot study was completed in 2022 and a full survey and outreach programme is now underway until 2024. In addition, I worked on, and led, the Problue (World Bank) funded development of plastic value chain analysis in Gaza and the West Bank, including the development of a 3R Strategy for the Territories in 2022, which will be the subject of a World Bak Mission in 2023.Marine planning is also a core area of work. This has initially involved working on a World Bank (GEF) funded project on marine planning for Apo Reef, a natural park in the Philippines as well as chairing the Clyde Marine Planning Partnership (CMPP) in Scotland. The CMPP is delegated to develop and deliver a statutory Regional Marine Plan for the Clyde to Scottish Ministers and also involves chairing the Clyde 2020 initiative, drawing together scientific research and practical interventions aimed at improving the Clyde marine ecosystem. I am a Visiting Professor at the University of Southampton.
