Hi, my name is Anthony Garuti and I am recent college graduate with a B.S. in Engineering Physics and minors in both Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics. The greatest research experience I had was working at the Laboratory for Surface Science and Technology as a Research Assistant in Orono, Maine. During this time, I worked on a project to make a probe for in situ high temperature resistivity measurements of ceramic thin films in an ultra-high vacuum environment. Working there allowed me to utilize my degree to its fullest potential doing both tasks that required me to expand my knowledge in physics of thin films and semiconductors while also utilizing my engineering background for designing the actual probe, with Solidworks, for making the measurements. Also, showing me the parts of research and working in a lab that I didn’t think about, like communicating with both the machine, shop to have parts made, and companies for purchasing new equipment or parts needed for doing different experiments. Having this experience only strengthened the idea that I would like to do work in research and gave me invaluable experience along the way.
