Dr Anthony Harris is Chief Geoscientist at Newmont. He is a leading expert on the geology of and exploration for porphyry Au-Cu deposits and epithermal Au deposits.He works closely with exploration and mining professionals and researchers to undertake targeted field-based work and strategic science that provides new exploration opportunities through advancing an understanding of ore systems and exploration models. While at Newcrest, Anthony was the technical lead responsible for the advancement, application and integration of new exploration technologies (like Corescan and TruScan) and new predictive technologies (Descartes Labs).Anthony’s role at Newcrest has included technical guidance from exploration targeting of global Au-Cu belts through to building new geological models to enhance metal recoveries (having built new geological models for Wafi-Golpu, Lihir, Havieron, Telfer and Red Chris). He has worked in teams responsible for the discovery of Haverion and East Ridge.Since joining Newcrest, he has worked on a variety of Au deposit types found in the circum Pacific region, including Australia, Asia-Pacific, the America’s and the northern hemisphere. These deposits have included porphyry (Cadia, Golpu, Red Chris, Cascabel), epithermal (Gosowong, Lihir, FDN), IRGS (Telfer, Havieron) to orogenic systems in West Africa and Australia. His role has included working across project assessments from early stage project to mines, including contributing to Newcrest’s Red Chris and Brucejack acquisitions. He has contributed to Newcrest exploration strategy for over a decade.Anthony has been involved with basic and applied studies of porphyry and epithermal ore deposits throughout Australasia, China, North and South America. He is well published in the basic documentation of ore deposits.
