I am currently pursuing an MSc in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Glasgow, building on my BEng degree from Dundee University. I have a keen passion for laser cutting, laser applications, and 3D printing, and my academic and practical experiences have shaped my commitment to advancing mechanical engineering.During my studies, I concentrated on laser technologies, leading to my dissertation on creating superhydrophilic and superhydrophobic surfaces on stainless steel using a 10 nanosecond pulsed laser. This research aimed to understand the relationships between laser parameters, surface topography, and surface wettability. The study demonstrated the adaptability of the 10 ns pulsed laser in producing surfaces with varying contact angles. I am now currently working on my MSc dissertation looking at creating a solid-state pump using ultrasonic vibrations to induce flow with no physically moving parts. In addition to my academic pursuits, I gained practical experience using tools like ANSYS and Abaqus for Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). This hands-on experience allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations, making me a versatile engineer ready for the challenges in mechanical engineering. My enthusiasm for laser cutting, laser applications, and 3D printing extends beyond academics. I am eager to contribute to advancements in these technologies, leveraging my skills and knowledge for cutting-edge research and innovative projects. I've had the rewarding experience of building both a laser cutter and 3D printers, which has been incredibly enriching for my skills and understanding of these technologies. Constructing a laser cutter provided me with insights into the intricacies of laser systems, including optics, control systems, and safety measures. On the 3D printing side, assembling printers from scratch enhanced my comprehension of additive manufacturing, from the mechanics of motion systems to the nuances of material extrusion. These hands-on projects not only deepened my technical expertise but also cultivated problem-solving skills and a practical understanding of the challenges inherent in implementing and optimizing such systems.Joining the MSc Mechanical Engineering program at the University of Glasgow excites me. I look forward to deepening my expertise, collaborating with faculty and peers, and contributing to the field's ongoing development.
