During the summer, I worked for a company called Thompsons in Carlow. It's a huge place where trucks and bridges are built. It's a really busy place, halfway through the summer, the manager who was in the store left, and I was prompted to assume the above role. The role entailed an enormous amount of both responsibility and stress as it wasn’t something I was familiar with. I learned a lot of skills in the job that will stay with me for life.Dealing with money - I had to do all the orders for the company and I had to deal with the company's money and I had to think about whether this was needed or not.Problem-solving - There are problems in every company and the most important thing about problems is how they are solved.Communication - Communication is a skill that we see in almost every job or communication skills. I had to talk to the employees, my manager, the owners,separately I had to talk to the companies we were buying equipment etc from it was great as I felt I had improved significantly after my summer at Thompsons.Learning on the job - This was the first physical labour job I had no training except for health and safety courses. I was working with the GAA during the pandemic, helping to organize the Cul Camps efficiently. I used these skills daily:•Training - I had to apply my education to the pitches and try to improve coaching skills.•Leadership - I was the main coach and had to manage the other coaches to teach the skills correctly.•Communication - I communicated with the coaches as well as communicating with the parents if there was any problem
