About Anthony L.

THAT DAY HAS COME.... Greetings and Salutations to all,I am writing this to the entire staff at the Western North Carolina VAHCS, VA Police and to all Police Officers working and retired. I would like to inform y ‘all that I am retiring from Law Enforcement for a second time in 45 years. While I am happy to finally partake of leisure time with my family, I will deeply miss my work and the friends I have made during my law enforcement career.During my rewarding tenure of 25 years as a Pittsburgh Police Officer and my 13 years as a VA Police Officer and 8 of those years as the Chief, I have developed in my professional and personal life. I thank each one of you for your support, guidance, and assistance. The friendships and associations I made during my career will remain forever.A special thanks to the Asheville VA Police Service. You have contributed to the safe and secure environment of the Medical Center and the Asheville VAMC is one of the safest places in North Carolina to work, receive medical care, and visit loved ones. You have provided an open and welcoming environment, while addressing crime and misconduct with professional execution and accomplishment. Competencies are at the highest level, bridges have been built with our federal and local community partners, technology has been upgraded, policies have been revised to address and respond to current trends and adhere to the always changing direction of Government.I have no regrets and I continue advise our Federal and local leaders to initiate a competitive and strategic police structure to ensure the hiring and retention of the best qualified law enforcement personnel available to serve our Veterans and our communities. I am confident I am leaving the VA Police Department in competent hands, as the Police Management staff are a professional and a competent component of Federal Law Enforcement and I have all the confidence that they will carry on in the highest tradition.I wish you all a bright future and thank each one of you for all that you do.In closing it is said by one of my favorite authors and a very wise man, “that some people spread happiness wherever they go and others, when they go”…LOLStay Well, Stay Safe, and Kindest Regards,Anthony Alan Laush

  • Veterans Affairs Asheville Medical Center
    Chief Of Police
Veterans Affairs Asheville Medical Center Aug 2012 - Present
    Asheville, North Carolina Area
All, Greetings and Salutations…I am announcing my impending departure from the VA in 2021. I have accomplished many of my goals here and will be leaving the Asheville VA Police Department in the near future for other opportunities in the Pittsburgh region (My home town). Over the past nine years, the Asheville VA Police Service has contributed to the safe and secure environment of the Medical Center and the Asheville VAMC is one of the safest places in North Carolina to work, receive medical care, and visit loved ones. We have provided an open and welcoming environment, while addressing crime and misconduct with professional execution and accomplishment. Competencies are at the highest level ever, bridges have been built and/or repaired with our federal and local community partners, technology has been upgraded, policies have been revised to address and respond to current trends and adhere to the always changing direction of Government.I have no regrets and I continue to advise VA leaders to initiate a competitive national police salary to insure the strategic retention of the best qualified law enforcement personnel to serve our Veterans and staff. Conversely, I highly encourage advancement for the most qualified under my command and feel accomplishment when one is selected for advancement in another service or agency, but replacement of such a loss is always a struggle. As long as I am still on the job, I will continue to fight the good fight to overcome this one incomplete goal to overcome strategic hiring and retention roadblocks . Upon my exit, I will be leaving the Police Department in competent hands, as the staff have transitioned into a professional Law Enforcement component of the VA Police and Security Service and I have all the confidence that they will carry on in the highest tradition. In parting, I must repeat a famous quote; "Some people spread happiness wherever they go and some when they go" LOL...Stay Well and Stay Safe,Anthony A.
