About Anthony Lakavage

My career is about making change happen to improve healthcare for patients. As an external affairs executive, I lead teams that leverage direct and digital advocacy, and modern collaboration and influencing approaches to problem-solve with solutions to healthcare and industry challenges. I have many examples of my skills at developing policy solutions, building coalitions, harnessing digital and news media, and direct lobbying to drive change. I've worked with respected Boards, ensuring flawless operations, informed debate, and consensus. I’ve been mentored by remarkable leaders and work to mentor my teams with the same passion. I give back by serving on volunteer Boards that support the biopharmaceutical industry, pharmacy education, and combatting counterfeit and substandard medicines. I've led teams of 50+ staff and managed significant budgets. My experience features successful advocacy at the US federal level with Congress, the FDA, CMS, CDC, and other agencies on payment, regulatory and public policy topics. Moreover, I partner with associations representing industry, patients, practitioners, and scientific communities, as well as health plans. Early in my career, I lobbied in 20 states in the Southeast and in California on multiple topics and achieved numerous advocacy victories. To foster dialogue, I expanded the USP Convention - comprised of 460 member orgs from government, healthcare and science - creating six sectors focused on USP’s work including Generics and Biopharmaceuticals sectors, and six regional chapters including an India/South Asia Chapter. For both USP and for-profit companies, I’ve built global teams to advocate on a range of topics to policy makers in India, Europe, China, Brazil and other leading markets with tangible success.I've worked extensively with multi-lateral organizations and am proud to have envisioned the USP-APEC Centers of Excellence on Supply Chain and a CoE on Advanced Therapies. Regulators from 21 economies (including the US FDA) engage.Recently, my role at USP expanded for the fourth time to include leadership of USP’s enterprise Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiative. I remain inspired to foster diverse, inclusive and impactful teams; collaborate across the stakeholder community; and implement solutions that problem-solve to support patient access to quality medicines, and a robust biopharmaceuticals industry to ensure the supply of quality medicines for people everywhere.
