I started at Arup managing a team of CAD technicians/Apprentices undertaking markups for the A120 Little Hadham Bypass Project. This was a joint project between Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) and the EA. On this project I also compiled the defects register from undertaking checks on the design against the DMRB and HCCs own standards. After this role I worked underneath a senior engineer to help re write TD42 (Now CD123) specifically in relation to Single Lane Dueling Junctions (SLJs) . In this role I found examples of SLJs and with the support of an apprentice compile the accident data associated with them and value the construction cost of the junctions. From this a cost benefit ratio could be calculated in regards to safety so the junction types could be ranked. My next role saw me back in the Hertfordshire County Council Offices filling a gap after a Senior Engineer left. I was asked to support him as I had knowledge of the client and the area from my sandwich year experience. This role saw me involved in small schemes of vales from £10 to £2.5 million working on my own. I took these schemes from conception, through optioneering and detailed design. I was asked to join the HS2 Walking Cycling and Horse-riding Assessment and Review (WCHAR) team due to my work in HCC with walkers and cyclists. I led both the Assessment and Review stages, seeing multiple stages of the HS2 design and multiple changes in the team.My current position is a site based design coordinator on the A120 bypass project. I distribute design work to Arup and WSP staff members and reply to the contractor after checking their work. This role sees me working closely with both the clients and the contractor and the clients supervisory staff which has taught me how to design considering buildability.

A sandwich year position working in Hertfordshire County Councils client offices supporting the Major Projects team on a range of projects ranging from junction improvements, to town center redesign and bypasses. I started as a CAD resource but by the end of the position I was designing station forecourt and junction schemes with minimal support outside of standard checking and approving procedure.
