Middle East Regional Director for the Property Business Group of Halcrow International Partnership (operating as Halcrow Yolles), leading the building design group, with operations in the UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah), Qatar, Syria and Pakistan.Member of the Executive Team which led and set global strategy for Property Business Group, as well as Halcrow’s Regional Management Team which led the business in the Middle East.Led the re-shaping of strategy for the business with the management team as a result of the sharp decline of the Middle East markets at the end of 2008. During this time with Atkins, the Dubai operation grew from 75 people to 750. Profitability increased steadily during this period from 3% in 2001 to 15% in 2007. Focussed the leadership team on incremental organisational changes to suit the increased size of both the design and site teams. Established a design operation in Manila to act as a "long corridor" operation to support growth in the Middle East, and within 6 months had a team of 50 people working there.Design Manager for the multi-discipline office, overseeing architectural, building services and structural engineering design. Responsible for delivery, cost control and quality of deliverables. As Regional Quality Manager, implemented a Quality Management System, achieved ISO 9001 accreditation for all offices in the Middle East.Project Manager for key projects, which were crucial to developing the business. The 21st Century Tower, a 53-storey, residential building, established Atkins’ reputation for quality and demonstrated that iconic design could be combined with exemplary efficiencies.

Structural design team leader for the iconic Burj Al Arab tower hotel in Dubai, the tallest building in the Middle East and the tallest hotel in the world, at the time of completion.

Joined Atkins (Epsom, UK) directly from university and participated in the graduate training programme. Initially worked as structural designer on a variety of projects in different materials as well as analysis of structures in distress. Progressed to a project manager role on the design of schools and bridges, as well as concept design of long-span and high-rise structures.Site experience as Assistant Resident Engineer on the construction of a GBP 8 million office development in Epsom, Surrey. Supervision of piled foundations, concrete frame and steel roof structure and atrium.Seconded to the Disney organisation in France for three years to work as Project Engineer on the new Euro Disneyland theme park close to Paris. Responsible for all engineering aspects of three major attractions, including the central Sleeping Beauty's Castle.
