I became Vice Chancellor of St Mary’s University Twickenham in April 2020 after serving as CEO of TEQSA, Australia’s national HE regulator, from 2015-20. Previous roles include Chief Executive of QAA and of UCAS, and leadership and administrative roles at the universities of Warwick and Hull. I have extensive governance experience in schools, colleges and universities, including Chair of Governors at All Saints Academy, Cheltenham, Governor of Harrow School, and Chair of Council and Pro-Chancellor at the University of Gloucestershire. I am Chair of GuildHE, an officially recognised representative body for UK HE, representing over 60 universities, university colleges, FE colleges and specialist institutions. I am a member of the Executive of the Cathedrals Group. I was appointed to the Governing Council of AVEPRO, the Holy See's Agency for the Evaluation & Promotion of the Quality of Ecclesiastical Universities & Faculties in 2021.I am Middle Warden of the Worshipful Company of Educators, a City of London livery company and a Vice President of the Catholic Union.In June 2024 I became Professor of HE Policy and Practice at St Mary's, whilst remaining Vice-Chancellor.
