About Anthony Mcdougle
I've worked as an electrical engineer focusing on power electronics for over 10 years, but that doesn't describe my full skill set! I've also taught as an adjunct instructor at The University of Colorado, teaching Introduction to Analog and Digital Electronics and have worked in industries as varied as healthcare equipment, consumer electronics, satellite subsystems and, most recently, LED lighting.I enjoy challenging problems and working within cross-functional teams to define requirements which will provide the customer with more than they expected. I really excel in agile environments and small companies, where the pace is fast and there is a focus on quick development to test the market before releasing a product. I try to bring the most appropriate technology to bear to all designs, be it analog circuits, embedded systems, or off-the-shelf ICs or components and focus on data driven design.I'm always looking to expand my network with people who are passionate about what they do and believe in bringing excellence to all aspects of their life. Feel free to reach out!

Adjunct Instructor, Department Of Electrical, Computer, And Energy Engineering
Develop lecture material, tests, and lab assignments to provide a basic overview of electrical engineering for 90+ students. This class culminates in the the students spending 5-6 weeks developing their own Arduino based project which interfaces to the outside world through digital and analog sensors. The majority of the students have little to no engineering or programming experience and must learn concepts starting from the very basic to a point where they can complete such a project. Oversaw 5 undergraduate teaching assistants to accomplish this goal.• Create course materials from scratch including lesson plans, PowerPoint presentations, homework assignments, and tests to meet course objectives.• Evaluate student performance and provide feedback throughout the term• Conduct performance analysis on assignments using Excel and Google Sheets• Deliver lectures to groups of 90-100 students• Run labs to reinforce lecture material with groups of 30-35 students • Use Desire2Learn and Slack to facilitate discussion and grading.• Advise and mentor undergraduate student success• Supervise and direct 5 undergraduate teaching assistants in grading and lab duties.
Senior Electrical Engineer
Applied advanced knowledge of scientific and engineering principles to design, model, test and validate various products, sub-assemblies and complex systems focused on LED lighting systems with little supervision or guidance. This was done while participating in, and sometimes leading, cross-functional teams.• Led the hardware and software development of a two-stage PFC LED driver to enable new Internet of Things features and maximize manufacturing flexibility through the use of fully software defined quasi-resonant switching controllers.• Led the transition to a new microcontroller architecture for new products: ARM Cortex-M0. • Developed a new highly flexible test system which can test the complete product portfolio, while logging data and reporting results back to headquarters from all overseas partners. This reduces unit to unit variability from >30% to less than 5% while increasing the amount of data available to ensure high quality product.• Developed of a new switching converter architecture to enable a fully solid state system of controlling beam pattern with input from the CTO.• Created 4 additional provisional patent filings.
Electrical Design Engineer
• Designed and developed LED light engine families targeted at OEM and retrofit general illumination markets which meet lighting, safety, and efficiency standards.• Designed power electronics circuitry and firmware in C and assembly for the PIC and MSP430 micro-controller families to manage thermal stress and support a 5-7 year warranty for LED light engines with an annual volume of 5-20k units.• Interfaced with mechanical engineers to develop thermally optimized PCB layouts within tight mechanical enclosures.• Wrote requirements and validation plans to gain UL, FCC, DLC, and EnergyStar certification for LED light engines and fixtures incorporating TerraLUX products.• Strong contributor in cross-discipline meetings including engineering, operations, quality, marketing, and upper management to drive projects from concept through end-of-life requirements.• Revamped the intern program, interviewed & hired candidates to implement a new test fixture architecture to automate testing and log test data for high volume, high mix production of products at multiple manufacturing facilities.• Transitioned schematic/layout software from Pulsonix to Altium resulting in faster design, tighter BOM control, few mechanical interferences and faster design cycles.• Developed revision control repository and best practices based on SVN and rolled out to the electrical engineering department.• Conducted training on both SVN and Altium as part of the initial rollout and again with new hires.• Created 3 provisional patent filings and listed as a co-creator on 2 provisional patent filings.
Electrical Engineer
• Developed power, analog, and mixed signal circuitry for consumer electronic devices with a strong focus on time to market, cost, manufacturability, and maximizing yield in a 10k-100k annual process.• Primary electrical engineer, led electrical requirements development, and managed many concurrent designs from concept through prototype, design validation, manufacturing, and sustaining activities.• Tripled the number of designs in production and in development while transitioning to new contract manufacturers.• Developed protocols and test equipment to validate manufactured units.• Traveled to China to interface with contract manufacturers and troubleshoot production issues.• Interviewed and trained two engineers.
Engineering Intern
Summer Internship• Determined requirements and designed circuitry to perform functional testing of Video Backplane circuit boards at incoming quality control.• Developed a method for quantifying analog video signal quality.• Implemented circuitry to recover distorted high speed digital TV signals up to 1080p.
Power Subsystem Team Lead
• Designed the solar panel system, battery charging, DC/DC conversion, and battery charging circuitry for a cube satellite in support of a March 2011 launch with NASA.• Constructed prototype Li-ion monitoring, safety, and charging circuitry using commercial off the shelf components.• Tested, characterized, and optimized circuitry to ensure compatibility with other satellite subsystems.• Participated in preliminary design, critical design, and flight readiness reviews with a NASA review board.
Electrical Engineering Intern
• Develop test procedures for a flow sand test system and write control software in Labview to automate testing.• Prototype and troubleshoot new designs• Perform communication standard conformance testing of devices using industrial communication protocols.
