Overseeing all Quantity Surveyors on a daily/ weekly basis, knowing of any situations arising from any contract, claims/ compensation events,costs of all contracts kept to a minimum to maximise profits, to have practical completion with as little plant, labour and materials. Overseeing large tender /contracts. Overseeing operations and daily issues that occur when dealing with the public.During this period period I still was estimating potential tenders and successfully winning good lucrative contracts, going over all the specification, bill of quantities, preamble to the bill of quantities, project information, contract data, programmes and updating as the projects as they went on. This is really when NEC3 contracts were taking over from CESMM, ICE and JCT type of contracts where the programme of works really came into affect with private and public authourities, getting your programme and percentages (contract data) right made a contract very profitable( Project Management).I have been carrying out most of the practical application of these positions from the ground up learning through experience on site, really what happpens on site and how to deal with situations occcuring first hand, which is the best way to gain experience, but i knew i needed my degree to futher my career.

My job as a Contract Manager overseeeing projects ( mainly highway construction / resurfacing )was 2 fold with the fact that i was also Health and Safety Director for the company, this involved not only overseeing my own projects but visiting our other projects to make sure that Health and Safety standards were adhered to and that all operations and operatives were meeting that standard, in particular PPE and operational standards such as Traffic Management, safety to the public, and a duty of care. Also overseeing the maintainance of our ISO 9001,14001 & 18001 certificates.During this period this is when I started estimating potential contracts successfully around 2004 and using Microsoft Project for tender and contract stages, this involved looking at all the tender documents, going over the potential site with drawings, getting a feel for the contract and calculating how to carry out the works efficiently as possible.
