HEBCAC is a nonprofit community development corporation founded in 1994 by area residents, in partnership with Baltimore City, State of Maryland, and Johns Hopkins University. In this role I support the development of new tools, learning communities and networks, and events focused on supporting the 100+ CUMU member institutions. I build relationship with leaders from across CUMU's member network and am charged with developing new programs and initiatives. Membership Community Building & Network Management: • Connects and supports CUMU members across the network to address their priorities and challenges as primary point of contact. • Develops and implements regular surveys and tools to assess and address member needs. • Serves as the lead for CUMU networks and huddles. • Manages members engaged in these networks through regular communication, community building, events, problem solving, and tool development.Oversight of virtual programming: • Develops and implements CUMU virtual programming, including webinars, the learning and sharing series, huddles, workshops, virtual summits, among others. Research management: • Works closely with the editorial team of the Metropolitan Universities Journal and the CUMU Research Council to move CUMU's research and policy agenda forward. • Oversees the implementation of CUMU research fellowships and research projects with members and collaborative partners to ensure that resulting research and products are disseminated and publicized. Grant Writing and Initiative Development: • Supports the development of funding opportunities for CUMU through grant writing and strategic partnerships. • Oversees the implementation and reporting of grants received and develop coalitions of members as needed to engage in the related initiatives. Co-Taught with Jonathan Rossing, Ph.D.• BUSN 270: Community, Leadership, and Practice - In this course students explore community leadership strategies and practice through the lens of place-based engagement and collective leadership. The course introduces students to critical community engagement and leadership frameworks that inform Gonzaga’s commitment to place, spends time exploring our shared place of Northeast Spokane, and provides opportunities to learn from resident leaders who exemplify adaptive leadership in practice. Co-Taught with Molly Ayers.• SOSJ 270: Justice in January - This course acts as preparation for students participating in the Justice in January immersion trip to to the U.S.-Mexico border. This course provide a brief sociologically-informed historical, political, economic, and cultural overview of U.S.-Mexico border issues. Students utilize this common baseline of knowledge to enhance their Justice in January experience and ensure ethical engagement. Co-taught with Juliane Mora, Ph.D.
