I look after people, not for profit organisations, and small and medium businesses in my community. I help them avoid and resolve disputes of all kinds. I represent them in court. I help them enforce contracts, protect their rights in property transactions, collect debts, appeal decisions of government and councils, defend claims, protect workplace rights, claim compensation when they're injured at work or because of someone else's wrong doing, defend wills, make claims against estates and more. I protect the rights of children in child protection proceedings and also help parents. I defend those charged with a criminal offence.I like to try and help everyone who walks in my door because I believe access to justice is important and because I enjoy having a diverse law practice. If I don't have the expertise to help someone alone, I can use my network to find a specialist to work with or make a referral to another lawyer or expert.My peers in the legal profession recognised my skills as an advocate and leader when I was elected President of the Law Society of Tasmania.

I am a member of the Guardianship Stream of TASCAT. The Tribunal's jurisdiction includes appointing alternative decision makers for people with a disability who are unable to make reasonable judgements about lifestyle and financial matters.

The Panel investigates and hears code of conduct complaints against councillors and has powers to impose sanctions including to suspend councillors for serious breaches of a code of conduct.

I am one of two Board members who are nominees of the Law Society of Tasmania. The Board receives and investigates complaints about the conduct of legal practitioners. It hears and determines certain matters that arise during its investigations, and refers certain complaints to the Disciplinary Tribunal and Supreme Court.

I donate my time to lead a group of business people who raise funds for the benefit of the community by making investments and by buying, developing and selling land. The Trust will develop two residential subdivisions in the near future. Historically the Trust has donate funds for the benefit of elderly people and was originally established to fund the building of the Eliza Purton Home in Ulverstone which has now grown into an organisation called Respect Aged Care.

Slipstream Circus is a non-profit Youth Circus which aims to foster personal development and community involvement.

The Committee advises the Law Council on matters affecting lawyers working in RRR areas and re-invigorated the Law Council’s RRR Law campaign.

The Guardianship and Administration Board was a statutory authority that made decisions for the benefit of people with a disability. The Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal has taken over the Board's former jurisdiction.

The Law Society of Tasmania regulates the State's legal profession, represents the profession's views and advocates for the just maintenance and reform of the law, particularly in reference to rule of law principles. The Council of the Society is its supreme decision making body. Following the end of my term as President of the Society, I have continued to serve the Society as a member of Council and on its executive committee.

I had the privilege to be elected to lead the Society and represent the legal profession in this state. I worked hard to raise the profile and influence of the Society by publicly advocating for the Law Society's position on rule of law issues like access to justice, mandatory sentencing, court resources and proposed legislation that had the potential to criminalise benign conduct. I made submissions to government and appeared regularly in the media.Initiatives that I instigated include a significant development of the Society's properties and the Society's Duty Lawyer and Graduate Employment Scheme.

If someone contacts my office who might need some legal advice or a referral but who would have trouble paying me, I often refer them to the North West Community Legal Centre. I supported access to justice in my community by serving on the Management Committee of the Centre. I helped make sure the Centre complied with its obligations to its Commonwealth and State government funders and helped guide decisions about the Centre's direction and future so that it could provide the essential service that the community needs. Under my presidency, the Centre expanded by employing more lawyers and undertaking more outreach work.
