Unicorn Shipping (part of the Grindrod group) owns and operates a fleet of product tanker vessels shipping clean petroleum products across the globe. Skills displayed: Coordinating multiple cargo operations of various petroleum products.Daily navigational watches whilst transiting between port calls.Assisting with the berthing and sailing of the vessel in port.Maintenance and survey of the lifesaving and firefighting appliances.

Safmarine is container shipping line which is part of the Maersk group. I joined Safmarine as a Deck Cadet to do my cadetship training on my way to becoming a Deck Officer. The trade routes I did my training on included the Far East/South Africa, Europe/West Africa and a Middle East feeder service. I progressed well through my training on four Safmarine container vessels where I completed my Maersk Cadet Project training program, gained valuable experience in assisting with the navigation and cargo watch with the various deck officers, learned the various duties and responsibilities of the deck officers and assisted with same. Through Safmarine I was able to get my Deck Officers qualification.
