  A Chartered Quantity Surveyor by career, Irish by nationality and an international construction professional by choice. Currently Commercial Manager at Bunnik in the Netherlands combining remote PM responsibilities for projects in Kitimat B.C for LNG Canada and various ad hoc tasks in Africa & Asia with Tender Assurance reviews of proposals for major projects throughout the BAM Group.Joined the Higgs & Hill in the UK in 1988 then started an overseas career in 1990 in Barbados and via a number of projects in Jamaica moved to Dubai in 1998 following the 1997 acquisition of Higgs & Hill by HBG. Eleven years in Dubai as Area QS for Higgs & Hill / Interbeton (during which HBG was purchased by BAM) and involvement in a variety of major building and civil marine projects in the Arabian Gulf ( Emirates Palace Hotel Abu Dhabi, Towers in Dubai & Doha, sea water intakes, breakwaters and jetties in UAE, Oman & Qatar) led to a transfer to Jakarta in 2009 to join the expanding operations of BAM International / PT BAM Decorient in Indonesia (Director) and South Asia including short periods in Australia on LNG projects. A downturn in 2017 led to a two year sojurn in Tanzania primarily involved in the USD 400M JNIA T3 airport in Dar es Salaam, projects in Sierra Leone & Kilmanjaro and a leading role in tendering/project acquisition. This was followed by 3 years in Vancouver on JV projects for LNG Canada.Hands on participation in all commercial functions from business development to project completion & beyond has developed a holistic view on construction, not as an end in itself but as an early step in the life cycle of the completed project be it a road, a port, a home or a factory. From a foundation of communication and meeting contract requirements, he believes most issues and disputes can be resolved with commercial pragmatism and mediation / discussion without resorting to unnecessary and prolonged disputes to the detriment of all parties and their relationships.
