Working on providing the Channel Islands with Fibre to the home {FTTH/FTTP} I have been working on all aspects of the job from doing BAU/SDU and MDU work.BAUAs working on the Channel Islands there are a lot of financial/blue chip companies. My working day would be to contact the company to arrange a time to best suit them to cause minimal disturbance to their company. Once contact has been made I would do a site survey which would include how best for the cable to be run internally to normally the communications cabinet. After this I may have to apply for road permits to the local parish as we might have to get road closers in place to get the fibre into the property. Once all this is in place we would contact the company to arrange a time with there I.T department to do the switch over this would include doing the internal fit and to configure there equipment. Causing minimal disruption to their network.SDU/MDUWorking on this aspect of the job would include receiving a job pack from the planners. Once received we would build the back bone of the network to get the fibre to the end user. This would include applying for road permits from the local parish. Pulling cable from joint to joint and building the core network. Once this is done the team would go in and get the fibre to each floor for the MDU prep. After all work has been completed I would then go and light source/test every fibre from the exchange to end user using an OTDR for light lose. Once this has been completed I would then arrange with my manger to do a hand over to the planners for installation to customer’s property.
