Watford North Scout District Programme Lead for CubsManaging and designing the district's programme for our 200+ Cub Scouts and 50+ leaders.

- run weekly activities to give 10.5-14 year olds skills for life- coordinate a team of local volunteers- managing equipment and supplies - undergoing yearly training

- plan termly programmes of fun and engaging activities for 8-10.5 year olds - run regular evening meetings - organise weekend away camps for young people- complete regular training in safeguarding, GDPR and first aid

I have been part of various projects with the IOP over many years, assisting as a volunteer or leading a team of volunteers on a project.

My position on the committee allows me to not only engage with members of the public and wider physics community through outreach events I have organised, but allows me to help to enable others to do so as well. Running outreach sessions is a tremendous experience, seeing others find the same joy in science as I do, is incredibly rewarding.

I marked assignments every two weeks for around 300 first and second-year maths students at Durham. I continue to mark assignments for a smaller group. I have found it helpful to be practicing and refreshing basic mathematical skills.

I worked full time in a brand-new department, focusing on teaching Northeastern University students physics while in the UK. My responsibilities include, writing lab scripts and tutorial problems, leading tutorials and lab sessions, coordinating with the other teaching assistants, marking coursework and having office hours for maths students. My position, rewards me with stimulating conversation, problems that require innovative solutions and helping to cement my own physics knowledge.

I took part in a paid internship with the AWE’s Nuclear Threat Reduction programme. The project was entitled “Magnetic Induction Tomography” and ran over eight weeks. The project started by building a theoretical model of magnetic fields and then a device to image them. I used FreeCAD to design 3D models of the device, then printed and assembled it with its electronic components. To image the magnetic fields, Hall effect sensors were used, connected via Arduinos. I spent five weeks assisting and teaching biology, chemistry, maths, and physics (mainly) to students from year 7 to year 12. This entailed creating lesson plans, designing problems, and creating experiments that would provide a useful insight into a given topic in physics. My time at Watford Boys not only helped me develop my leadership and communication skills when delivering a class but also my willingness to work with fellow teachers to create a fun and educational programme of study.
