As the Head of Technical Support at London South Bank University, I am responsible for ensuring that department delivers an individualised learning experience for students across a wide range of disciplines, supporting commercial activity and projects for the university community and its partners, and advancing the University’s research and enterprise portfolio. I lead a senior management team which is comprised of five discipline specific technical services managers, each of whom has a local team of technicians closely aligned to the following supported academic schools, Applied Sciences, Arts & Creative Industries, The Built Environment and Architecture, The Insititute of Health and Social Care and Engineering. I am responsible for overseeing and implementing capital equipment projects across the technical academic portfolio, working with key stakeholders (Academic, Estates and External partners) to ensure that projects are delivered to agreed design specifications, on time, within budget envelopes and are operationally effective at the point of use.As the strategic technical lead for the Technician Commitment (TC), I have played a key role in the development of the TC action plan and continue to champion staff engagement (at all levels) with the core pillars of career development, visibility, sustainability and recognition for technicians.

As a Principal Lecturer and the Academic Director in the Department of Engineering and Design. My role was concerned with overseeing the academic quality of a broad ranging programme portfolio and was intertwined with the enhancement of the student learning experience. In addition to Course management responsibilities my core teaching and development activities fell into the following areas:Design Computing - With detailed knowledge of commercial 3D modelling software, I was responsible for the implementation of CAD modelling tools alongside visualisation and analysis applications for a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the department. I worked closely with commercial partners (such as Autodesk and Siemens) to ensure that an integrated approach was reflected in the academic provision. Rapid Prototyping (RP) - As a keen advocate of new technology in engineering design I set up the first University RP centre as a resource to provide a range of additive manufacturing technologies for teaching and project based activities. In addition to being responsible for the recommendation, installation and continued development of applied technologies in this area I worked closely with technical /academic staff and students in an advisory role.Advanced Manufacturing – I was responsible for the development of an integrated resource of advanced manufacturing technologies in the engineering workshops. My proposals led to the implementation of facilities incorporating inspection and measurement, reverse engineering and CNC machining resources supported by an offline programming suite for teaching and post processing of CAD data.Specialties: Alias Studio Tools, Siemens NX, Siemens Solid Edge, Autodesk Inventor, Product development and prototype manufacture, Additive Manufacture of Polymer based materials.

Course Director for BSc (Hons) CAD & BSc (Hons)Mechanical Engineering Design at London South Bank University.Specific field of expertise is 3D CAD, CAM and Rapid product development.

I was responsible for producing a variety of prototypes using a range CADCAM machines. My primary focus was undergraduate Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Product Design students. I provided technical support for installed applications in the CAD suite. Back office responsibilities included all aspects of network supervision, software installation, hardware repair and maintenance.

I was responsible for the manufacture of medical apparatus for a broad range of research applications. This included the maintenance and repair of dental apparatus used in the teaching laboratories, as well as the day to day upkeep of workshop machinery.
