I am interacting more directly with utility companies and designers to foster my abilities to resolve highway project conflicts during the design phase.In addition to my day-to-day assignment, I am heavily involved and deeply invested in developing a roadmap which will aid MassDOT in implementing Subsurface Utility Engineering into their Project Development and Design Guide. This document outlines all statewide guidelines for project development used by design engineers and utility companies across the commonwealth. I am excited to produce work which will greatly improve the efficiency in resolving conflicts and providing meaningful utility data, as well as reduce delays in product management due to unforeseen utilities in the field. I worked part-time as an undergraduate researcher under professor Shannon Roberts at UMass Amherst's Human Performance Lab (HPL). This laboratory has a legacy of using driver technology to analyze driving habits in the pursuit of improving transportation. In particular, my work dealt with minority groups of drivers (young/ new drivers, police officers, senior drivers, etc.,). In particular, my work dealt with minority groups of drivers (young/ new drivers, police officers, senior drivers, etc.,). Two of my most notable accomplishments are:Troubleshooting and Maintenance - Arbella Hazard Anticipation Simulator:This research assignment took place during the Spring 2022 semester. I was tasked with setting up an Arbella driving simulator which had not been used since before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This simulator had several bugs that needed to be worked out before it could be used for testing. Through the tedious setup and troubleshooting of the simulator system, I learned the common weaknesses of the system, drawing connections from these weak points to the young-driver focused study. The experience of growing and understanding of the system allowed me to notice sources of error which would later be discussed in the analysis phase of the research study.Data Analysis - Police Officers and Vehicle Cyber Attacks:In Fall of 2022, I performed data analysis of a survey given to Massachusetts police officers regarding vehicle cyber attacks. Through this analysis, I sharpened my RStudio skills while discovering key findings in the data. This experience overall provided the laboratory with informative graphics and statistics key in judging the awareness of police officers of the risk and likelihood of vehicle cyber attacks.
