Developed a full custom communications protocol, all FPGA logic, and the feedback control electronics to substantially reduce clock jitter throughout the system. This single-fiber link will provide precise timing signals and machine status data to users of the accelerator and the systems controlling it. Also working with the Controls group on a new injection timing system for the APS Upgrade incorporating picosecond timing accuracy. -

Long-term upgrades to the accelerator's storage ring, short-term experiments, improving the control electronics of legacy systems, and providing technical leadership and training for the APS engineering staff were also part of my ongoing responsibilities. My work was split among a number of tasks including FPGA design using Verilog/VHDL, high-speed ADC/DAC integration, analog, digital, RF, switching power supplies, PCB design, development, and deployment as well as learning the EPICS physics automation environment. Migration of FPGA platforms to the latest dual-ARM core devices running embedded linux was also implemented.
