As a member of the Global Epidemiology Observational Health Data Analytics team and the Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine's Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO), our research is focused on using observational health data and real world evidence to advance global patient care and improve medical decision making. To do this, we are active participants in a multi-stakeholder interdisciplinary collaborative called Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI - pronounced Odyssey: https://www.ohdsi.org). OHDSI's mission is to improve health by empowering a community to collaboratively generate the evidence that promotes better health decisions and better care. To achieve this mission, we've formed an open-source community focused on the generation of large-scale analytics to generate reliable, reproducible real-world evidence. Through our network of participating data sites, we have access to a federated (and protected) network of over 1 billion patient globally. As part of the OHDSI collaborative and my work at Johnson & Johnson, I'm able to leverage my deep information technology expertise in big-data management and application development to expand the capabilities of many of the open-source solutions. I am currently a co-lead and project manager for the OHDSI ATLAS/WebAPI working group which aims to foster a community of developers aimed at improving these tools to advance the sciences of using observational health data to inform medical decision making.
