Ornge is a not for profit organization whose sole funder is the Ontario Ministry of Health. A vital part of Ontario’s health care system, it provides high quality air ambulance service and medical transport to people who are ill or injured. Ornge serves more than 13 million people over one million square kilometres of land. It is the largest air ambulance and critical care land ambulance fleet in Canada, and performs approximately 20,000 patient-related transports per year.Through progressively responsible roles, current primary accountability is to develop and implement strategies to ensure the organization’s system readiness, response efficiency and sound financial management.This entails: • Managing internal relations with technical departments, Base Hospital, Aviation Operations, Aviation Maintenance, Logistics and other supporting departments;• Participating in the management of 4 multi-disciplinary collective agreements; • Oversight of all associated budgets;• Directing daily operation of rotary air ambulance base;• Developing and maintaining positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including Ministry of Health officials, community leaders, First Nations Communities and allied agencies: Fire, EMS, Police Services;• Developing and delivering presentations to ensure public awareness of the service and to elicit community support for important initiatives (e.g. construction of helipads);Key accomplishments include: • Created, chaired and managed multidisciplinary committee responsible for redesign and implementation of AW-139 medical interior; provided oversight and accountability for associated budgets, resulting in greater transparency to the public and political bodies.• Responding to a directive from Transport Canada regarding an important public issue, a certified solution was developed and implemented within 12 months, and under budget.
