Experience as a Judge:I believe in fairness and justice and have devoted more than 20 of my 22-year legal career to public service, including 7 years as a judge pro tempore with the Marion County Circuit Court and as an administrative law judge with the State of Oregon. As a Marion County Circuit Court Judge pro tem, I managed my own courtroom, presiding over criminal, juvenile, divorce/custody, and civil cases.Experience as a Prosecutor & an Attorney:​I started my legal career as a deputy district attorney prosecuting, trying, and handling hundreds of criminal cases - everything from DUIIs to serious sex crimes, racketeering, fraud, and murder cases. As a prosecutor, special prosecutor, special assistant attorney general, and an enforcement attorney, I helped to protect our most vulnerable citizens – abused and exploited children, victims of domestic violence, and the elderly. As a civil attorney, I handled everything from divorce cases to complex civil litigation representing individuals, small businesses, and large, multi-million dollar, international corporations.Experience as a Senior Policy Advisor:My legal career has spanned well beyond the courtroom, and I've had a unique opportunity to work for the benefit of and to protect almost every Oregonian in this state. I've written Oregon law that impacts the entire state. I've testified before the legislature numerous times as an expert on state and federal law. I've served on and led numerous advisory committees for the State of Oregon. I've advised 4 different governors' offices and was appointed to serve on the Governor's State Inter-agency Coordinating Council. Recently, I led a project that successfully obtained more than $32 million dollars from the federal government to lower insurance rates for hundreds of thousands of Oregonians and took a leading role negotiating a contract with the CEO of a $500 million corporation for the benefit of over 100,000 Oregonians.
