As a tenured Associate Professor I take on more leadership within the department. My expertise and experience is now used to help mentor junior (tenure-track) faculty to enable growth of the department. My goal as a senior faculty member in the department is to continue to refine and shape my knowledge of both teaching and research, while contributing to more service and administrative activities. My experience has allowed me to participate as a hiring committee chair, an expert panelist, session moderator, journal editor, assessment/accreditation leader, workshop leader, mentor, and more.

Dr. Anthony Torres received his BS degree in Civil Engineering from New Mexico State University and his MS and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of New Mexico. His primary research has been in the area of testing and modeling of concrete materials including ultra high performance concrete, pervious concrete, sustainable concretes, and alternative cementing materials. Dr. Torres is also the 2018- 2020 LBJ STEM Institute for STEM Education Faculty Fellow for his contributions to teaching through Engineering Education research. Utilized design programs such as RISA 2D/3D, RAMSteel and Primavera P6. Developed a new, in-house, spreadsheet to design lintels using LRFD and ASD design. Created new and innovated designs to meet the owner and architects needs.

Investigated and inspected large irrigation wells throughout the Lower Rio Grand region. Developed sophisticated and efficient spreadsheet to categorize the irrigation well specifications. This resulted in an expedited analysis and management of key information crucial to the mission of the State Engineers Office.
