Having worked for the Clicks Business Intelligence team for more than 13 years, I took on a new and exciting challenge. The experience gained in retail, plus my many years involved in the Pharmacy / Medical Aid industry, enables me to step out boldly into the world of BI in retail. PBT presented me with a new challenge at Woolworths and I have approached it with a positive mindset, knowing that I can add great value to any organization seeking to achieve that next level of performance and perfection.

I was employed at Clicks for just over 13 years and was looking for a new challenge in the BI environment. My strength lies in my passion to learn new things and to deliver quality solutions. I am always open to new ideas. This has enabled me to develop both as an individual and as a great team player.Major achievements include :o Integrating feeds from JDA MMS, SCM, LMS, Dot Active, SAP and all other systems into BIo Moving of the Data Warehouse transformation processes from the AS400 to the Oracle platform My BIG momentsAutomating the Weekly extracts.Delivered the Service Excellence program to track the Store Performance across a two year period.Development of various Resource Planning and Labour model tools - saving the company more than R4mil. LMS - Campaign management - The move to Real Time Sales processing via the ESB, required a change in the BI processing methods. My role was to develop the XML feeds and process for everything relating to the sale. This was my first time of exposure to XML and also one of my most successful deliveries to-date.BI Operate TeamIn the BI Operate team I went thru the process of having to stabilize many ‘shaky’ jobs that were failing at night and causing unnecessary standby call-outs.RPS (Repeat Scripts) A fresh re-look at the process and some major surgery to the existing code, saw the process simplified and stabilized Migration of SAP Data Services jobs from one Sql Server to another converting “old” version to” new”All the existing jobs were migrated successfully without a single incidentMigration to Control_MOne Hundred and Fifteen Oracle / UNIX Scheduled (CRONTAB) jobs were successfully migrated to the new CONTROL_M scheduling tool without a single incident.SupportImprovements in the standby / support structures led to permanent solutions being applied as opposed to temporary fixes. This led to a big reduction in standby incidents (eg. Oracle Deadlocks were all but eliminated).

Responsible as the Program Manager for the merging of all the EDW (Enterprize Data Warehouse) projects at the time. Further duties required my active participation / representation in the Group Architecture forums. The development of a "working methodology" included the use of the full Kimball methodology to drive Project Plans including Project Definition, Scope Management, Analysis & Design, User Testing, Quality Assurance, etc.Major achievements included :Data Warehouse architecture reviewManaging the EDW team responsible for the ETL componentManaging EDW team responsible for Commission interfacesSiebel and CRM interfacesEvaluation of IIW / IWS Data Warehouse modelsSoftware feasibility studies / evaluations / selection (eg. BusinessObjects, Harvest, Power Designer, etc)This was a huge corporate environment and everything moved at a snails pace - thus frustrating the techies in the team.

The start of my Business Intelligence career was created by the brave move of D&E Health Benefits in 1997, when they decided that they needed a consolidated view of the claims from the many Medical Aids they were administrating at the time. Enter Sybase and SybaseIQ, a product set way ahead of its time. I then volunteered to step out of my comfort zone of RPG and into the unknown world of EIS (Executive Information Systems) as it was then known. And for four fantastic years I grew my knowledge in the infancy world of Business Intelligence.My skill set included Sybase & SybaseIQ as well as Business Objects and D&E became the market leader in analytics in Health Care in South Africa. ........ and I was in the middle of all this. My responsibilities included : Business Discovery / Analysis Project Management Modelling (Business Process / Data / Dimensional) Metadata processing / defining Quality Assurance Data Warehouse design Data Extraction Data Transformation  Data Warehouse data population Writing of all code Testing Financial:o Budgetingo Trainingo Hardware management / capacity planningo Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity Planning Software feasibility studies / evaluations / selectionThis was, without doubt, the most exciting time of my career as we delivered "State of the art" systems in the Health Care space. Queries ran from remote sites in seconds and we demonstrated this to doctors and other medical practitioners in Johannesburg by taking adhoc queries off the floor and running them - the server being in Cape Town - and delivering sub second responses.Today - this is the foundation upon which SAP HANA has been built .
