From childhood, I have always had an interest in electronics and technology. Tearing apart broken toys and fixing or repurposing them, to where I am today, technology has been a consistent theme along my journey.Early employment involving graphics design, as well as supporting friends and family with their computers support and networking, I soon found my way into a career at Ponderosa Telephone where my telecom passion was kindled.Hiring on in the G.I.S. department, my familiarity with graphics design made it an easy transition to working in Autocad, even having never used the software before then. Supporting company staff with records, posting as-builts to our facility maps, as well as fielding for Network Facility Engineers. My interests in networking were soon fostered by the opportunity to blend my knowledge of our records database, with Gary Pemelton's vast knowledge of our network. I soon found myself engineering special access circuits primarily using our Cisco 15454 platform, and assisting our network techs. with the build-out of our Adtran transport and subscriber service access network. This positioned me well to jump to a Network Operations Comm. Tech. role where I was able to continue my growth with the logical aspects of the network, and get the hands-on with the physicals of installation and maintenance. Another avenue I was able to explore in a professional environment was working with AC and DC power, as well as microwave radio systems.Around two short years in this position, I moved into the Network Design Engineering department at Ponderosa. Shortly after this transition, I managed a network critical radio replacement project along with the more day-to-day tasks of supporting the Network Ops. staff support, designing remote carrier sites with Calix and Adran DSLAM's, microwave radio network design, off-grid/on-grid power systems, site collocation management and records. From legacy analog services on up to Ethernet services, commercial power to off-grid sites, and project management, the scope of skills required of this position were vast to say the least. Currently as a Network Facilities Engineer, I am diving deeper into the outside plant world engineering copper and fiber backbone/distribution networks, while bridging a previously missing gap between what is possible with our electronics. I pride myself on being a flexible, fast learning geek with a passion for all things tech., an undying trend that one would be hard pressed to miss once you get to know me!TL;DR: I love electronics, technology, and telecom.
